Story

Laura was a fun-loving girl with an adventurous spirit, living in London and working in publishing. Laura had a passion for many things in life including music, festivals, travelling, eating out, cocktails, football (Wolves) and cats!

She was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2012 after having seizures at work. She had brain surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy but she was determined to carry on living her life to the full. Laura carried on living independently and working in London, having as much fun as she possibly could. She suffered from severe fatigue and side effects of her treatment, but she did not let this stop her and she never complained. She had such a positive outlook, which helped everyone around her. Unfortunately the tumour progressed and in March 2015 she had more seizures and deteriorated rapidly. She was so brave and was an inspiration to many people who knew her. Laura was 29 years old when she died. We will miss her so much.

Laura was treated at University College London Hospital (UCLH) by Dr Paul Mulholland and his team. She received great care and support from everyone at UCLH and they did everything they could to help her. We have chosen to raise money for the glioblastoma research fund (charity ID 1051) of the UCLH Charity, as money raised will fund research into the type of condition Laura had. We hope the money raised will help improve survival rates of people with this terrible condition.

According to Brain Tumour Research (2013), brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of young people under 35, yet it receives only 1% of the national spend on cancer research. 60% of people diagnosed with a brain tumour will die within one year. Between 2001-2011 there was a 16% increase in the number of people who died from brain cancer. Brain Tumour Research also found that treatments for brain tumours lag seriously behind other cancers. I feel strongly that we all need to raise awareness of this disease and increase research funding by contributing what we can ourselves and influencing others to do the same, including national cancer charities.

Please state Laura’s name in the donation fund as follows: ‘Laura Foster for the glioblastoma research fund (charity ID 1051)’
