Story
Rosalind lived a very full and enjoyable life for 88 years.
Rosalind, and twin sister Alma, were born to Miles and Jenny Storer in 1931 and joined their elder sisters Rita and Elsie in North Shields. After moving to North London for a couple of years the family returned back to North Shields.
Educated at Queen Victoria School and then the Gregg's High School for Girls in Jesmond she trained as a shorthand typist and secretary.
In 1953 she married Bill Collin at the Memorial Methodist Church in North Shields. Bill, who was initially from Eyemouth, had returned to his family who were living in North Shields after completing his National Service in London between 1946 and 1947.
Their first flat was in Rothbury Terrace in North Shields followed by Nos 1 and 20 Deepdale Road on Marden Estate. Rosalind's two sons, Neil and Alistair, were born whilst they were living in Deepdale Road before the family moved to Monkstone Crescent in 1974 and then Millfield Grove in the late 1990s.
Work included George Angus, the Tyne Commisioner's Quay and an accountant's before joining the NHS at Preston Hospital and North Tyneside General Hospital on the Maternity Department. Working in the hospital was her most satisfying job and she enjoyed twenty five years service there. Always a keen sports woman she enjoyed playing tennis, squash and badminton and loved the family holidays each year at Crieff Hydro.
The world of golf, country dancing, whist and bridge then followed along with bowls. Her appetite to play and be involved in team activities enabled her to broaden her contacts and to holiday with friends and family on golfing holidays.
Bill died suddenly in 2007 following a short illness after fifty four years of marriage. Rosalind remained at Millfield Grove until moving to Marden Court to join her twin sister and brother-in-law in the same block of apartments in 2014.
Rosalind enjoyed good health throughout her life however she suffered a TIA in 1988. She was then being bitten by an insect whilst on a holiday in South Africa in 1997 which developed into a blood problem which was managed successfully for twenty years. This however progressed in 2017 into Bone Marrow Failure with a short time frame advised. Rosalind battled on despite this for nearly three further years.
She moved into Redesdale Court Care Home in late 2019 and enjoyed a number of months there as a resident. She died on the 15th May 2020.
In the last three years of her life Rosalind told everyone that she'd had a long and happy life. She felt looked after and supported by a loving husband and family along with the companionship of a huge number of friends from different walks of life.
She was content and had fulfilled her dreams.
