Story
So I never thought I'd say this but... I am running the Sheffield half marathon on the spur of the moment decision. I will only get about three-four weeks of training in (eurgh) which is a big challenge for me as I am not a "real" runner (apart from the odd sweaty 4K treadmill stint which is quite different!)
However, this is no where near the challenge that is faced by people with disfigurement. Seeing someone who may look "different" can evoke reactions of fear and uncertainty or sometimes plain curiosity. Changing faces helps people with disfigurement to overcome such situations which can be very painful (hurtful comments, staring or whispering) a fear lived with from day to day.
Changing faces do fantastic work to help these brave people face there fears by providing vital mental health services, which otherwise may not be available; support for families and by raising awareness so we can eliminate discrimination and prejudice. Absolutely everyone deserves to live with confidence!
There are only a few weeks until race day, which unfortunately doesn't give me a lot of time to fund raise. This means that every single donation is HUGELY appriciated (even if it's fifty of your finest English pence) and will help spur me on when the feel like my lungs are about to explode!
