Story
I am participating in the London Nightrider event on 7th June 2014; a unique 100km ride past London's iconic landmarks at night! I'm doing this to raise funds and awareness for an amazing organization which has, and continues to, provide invaluable support to members of my family: Child Bereavement UK.
In July 2008, my auntie was at a friend's house with her children, my cousins, Chloe, Elissa and Jessica. It was the start of the summer holidays and the girls wanted to spend the day there as there was a swimming pool. At the end of the day when everyone had gone inside, Jessica slipped away without notice to continue playing in the pool. Although the pool was now covered, she fell in and the pool cover returned to its original position, concealing her underneath. My auntie, her friend, Chloe and Elissa all frantically searched for Jessica until she was discovered at the bottom of the pool - sadly she had drowned.
No parent should ever have to face losing a child and so I'm sure you can imagine the eternal heartache my auntie, my uncle and my cousins have to endure every day, as well as the extended family who were all very fond of Jessica.
Child Bereavement UK has served as a lifeline for my auntie and uncle and has helped them navigate through what has been a difficult 6 years and will continue to do so for as long as they're able to. In order for this to happen though, the charity relies on fundraising, and hence my decision to raise money for them by taking part in the London Nightrider event.
So friends and family: please contribute to me meeting my fundraising target. No donation is too small and you can rest assured your money is going to a worthy cause. Not just for my family but for other families who have to endure such a terrible loss. I'll also be posting a photo of me at the end of the 100km, which I'm sure will be something you won't want to miss!
Thanks for reading Jessica's story and thanks in advance for your support.
