On Monday I run my second Marathon and so I’ve set up a Just Giving page to raise a little money for a charity called Action Mental Health @amhni
We can all have moments of mental ill health, it’s coloured my life and relationships in various ways through my 34 years but understanding and accepting its visits from time to time and finding my routes back to a clearer and happier mind has been they key to having it not rule me and for me running has been a big part of that. Right now discussing stress, anxiety and depression is something that is getting easier and easier for everyone to talk about with the huge steps forward we’re all taking to de-stigmatise these conversations, to make us all realise that looking after your mind should be no less a taboo subject than looking after your body, but there’s still a long way to go and charities like Action Mental Health are there to support those who need somewhere to turn that maybe isn’t present in their own lives.
Action Mental Health helps with those living with mental ill health and promotes resilience and well-being to future generations. Many of you will know how destructive and difficult it can be living with or around issues involving mental health and why charities like Action Mental Health are so important in providing support to those who suffer and a path to become stronger and happier. One in five of us will show signs of a mental illness, the prevalence of mental illness in Northern Ireland is 25% higher than in England and there is limited support or funding here to cope with it. We all have people who desperately needed this sort of support in the past, we will all know people who need it now.
Please please please donate whatever you can. Thank you guys!!
Much love, Rory.
