Story

Thanks for visiting mine and Ryan’s Just Giving Page!

What are we doing?

On Sunday 7th July 2019, the Cancer Research Wales team will
be running The Wales Marathon in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record the most runners linked to complete a marathon.

The new record stands at 112 runners, which is held by a
team in Canada. We are therefore looking to beat this amazing record, with 120 runners (or more) completing The Wales Marathon, held in Tenby, Pembrokeshire.

Why are we running?

I am running in memory of my father (Peter Barrett) who
passed away in September 2018 after his battle with oral cancer.

Running alongside me is one of my closest friends, Ryan Bourne,
who is running in memory of his mother (Julie Bourne) who passed away in October 2017 after her battle with ovarian cancer, and grandmother (Glenis Hodges) who passed away from endometrial cancer in January 2015 after battling with the disease over a number of years.

Throughout both of our parent’s treatments, we witnessed first-hand
the level of high quality care that hospital staff provide 24 hours a day, 7
days a week. Doing all this in an environment which is suffering from budget cuts, and financial strain is no easy task, but staff at the Royal Gwent Hospital, and Velindre worked endlessly, and we are hoping to show our gratitude by raising as much as we can.

With both of our parents being deemed "in good health
for their age", watching the drastic effect cancer can have in a short
space of time, it made us realise that cancer doesn’t show prejudice for age, race, sexual orientation, or gender.

Between us we have pledged to raise £1000, but we are aiming
to surpass that target and raise as much as we can. All money raised will help provide life changing treatment, and research into this horrific disease.

Whether pennies or pounds, anything you donate will help make a big difference to someone’s life.

Thank you!
