Story

As you may or may not be aware, my grandson Loki, was a victim to sepsis last year with devastating results. However, we were lucky, and we're eternally grateful that our cheeky monkey is still with us. The speed in which his illness took over was frightening. The medical staff that attended him were amazing, and thanks to their quick recognition of the symptoms and prompt actions, they managed to save him.

The UK Sepsis Trust, now has a special significance within our family, and if we can save a life from our experience, then our ordeal would have a greater meaning.

I have chosen The John Muir Trail as I know it will be a great physical challenge, hence my fundraising goal. The hike will take me 3 weeks, is  211 m long, it passes through 3 National Parks - starting in Yosemite, passing through Kings Canyon and ending with the summit of Mt. Whitney (4421 m) in Sequoia National Park, and will have a total elevation of 14000 m. I am walking this solo and will have to carry my tent and own provisions. Having walked the GR20 in Corsica, which was an 11 day hike, I know that this trek is going to be even more of a challenge - I am both excited and in trepidation, especially with my knees!

So, if you can dig deep and support a noble cause,  it would be very much appreciated.

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
