Story
Hi Folks,
Myself and James Molloy are fundraising as we are hoping to go to Cape Town in November 2018 with the Niall Mellon foundation for 1 week to build a new school.
Mellon Educate is an Irish-based African development charity founded by developer & philanthropist Niall Mellon. Since 2002 the charity, thanks to the enormous collective effort of some 25,000 volunteers, has built houses for 125,000 homeless people in Africa’s poorest townships. This was only possible because ordinary people took selfless action to do something truly extraordinary, lend a helping hand on the annual “building blitz” in South Africa. In 2012, Mellon Educate proudly celebrated a milestone achievement for the charity with 25,000 houses completed.
In November 2016 over 200 volunteers went to Cape Town to complete the extension & refurbishment of 2 Nr schools within the week.
The costs involved are:
Each volunteer has to raise £3,500 each, so £7,000 for the two of us.
Where does the money go?:
£1,200 each for flights, accommodation etc
£2,300 each goes to wards the building materials required to construct the school.
This is a very worthy cause and has been running for approx 12 years with over 200 volunteers going each year to construct houses, schools and chapels for the deprived areas.
Every donation is much appreciated no matter how small. Thank you in advance.
