Story
We are going to be taking on the London Marathon in October 2022 to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity.
The BTC is the world’s leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research globally.
Our brother Freddy was diagnosed with an inoperable Grade 3 brain tumour in December 2019. He has undergone intensive radiotherapy, a dozen rounds of chemo, tried experimental treatments, had several emergency hospitalisations, a back operation to fix a crumbling spine (caused by steroids, an essential drug in his regime), lost his speech, then gained some of it back again… as you can tell there have been so many ups and downs in the last two and a half years!
While Freddy has had to stop working, driving and living in his own flat, he has been keeping busy since diagnosis:
- An Insane amounts of Lego has been built (tens of thousands of pieces).
- Communicating through photos and videos has turned him into quite the photographer.
- His love of food is still there, and he continues to cook for us.
- Grand Theft Auto (the game!) has started to creep back into his daily life and he is now teaching mum how to play…
Overall his diagnosis is hugely depressing. We want to raise money to help fund research into improving the treatment and outcomes for people living with brain tumours.
Having already competed in several half marathons and even one ultra marathon in October 2021, we felt that the London Marathon was the natural next step for us to raise money for a cause so close to our hearts. Brain Tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40, they strike so fast and reduce life expectancy by an average of 27 years, but there have been few new treatments introduced in decades. With your support, we will be able to defeat brain tumours sooner. There really is no time to waste!
