Story
Little Roman is very lucky to be alive. This tiny 4 week old stowaway was discovered in the back of a furniture lorry that had made it's way by road from Romania in baking hot temperatures - a journey of nearly a week.
When the truck arrived at the depot in Marsh Leys, Bedford, his pitiful cries alerted warehouse staff, who clambered carefully over boxes to find this tiny sick kitten; weak, frightened and dehydrated. Thankfully for Roman, Tamsin Eastwood, Coordinator of Cats Protection Bedford and Biggleswade Branch, works at the Depot so she was on the spot and knew exactly what to do.
He was rushed to the vets and was discovered to be underweight, severely dehydrated and showing symptoms of Cat Flu, with swollen inflamed eyes that he was unable to open until they’d been carefully bathed by the nursing team. He was admitted to the vets and given intensive supportive care, intravenous fluids, antibiotics and lots and lots of TLC. After a week at the vets he was well enough to be transferred to a DEFRA approved quarantine facility where he'll stay for up to 3 months.
The costs of all this care for Roman will be around £1,600 and we’d love it if you were able to help. Any money that we raise above this target will go towards caring for the many other cats and kittens in our care.
Roman is proving to be a big hit with everyone that meets this plucky little kitten. He’s getting so much love and attention from the quarantine staff and we are looking forward to welcoming him back in a few months when he’s had his rabies vaccine, completed his quarantine and is in full health, ready to go to his forever home.
