Story
On the 5th September 2020 Vix and I shall be rollerblading a marathon for Woodland House; a cause we both feel very strongly about.
Whilst we haven't rollerbladed since the age of 10...nor ran a marathon before...(looking good!) we've told all our friends that we're doing this so too late to back out now!
If you've managed to save a couple of pounds through Lockdown and not spent them all in Anthropologie like Vix then please consider making a donation! Woodland House addresses an issue that may one day impact you or your friends, and will hopefully massively improve the experiences of women and families going through such a loss.
If not no worries- thanks for checking out our page and learning more about Woodland House!
To find out more please read below:
1 in 4 pregnancies will end in miscarriage, and every day 15 babies will die before, during or shortly after birth.
The impact of this all too common tragedy is profound:
- Bereaved mothers are four times more likely to experience depression and seven times more likely to experience PTSD.
- 62% of men report feeling suicidal following an experience of baby or pregnancy loss.
Currently across the NHS, specialist services are not widely available to support women and families going through such a loss, and with baby loss an issue that has, and will continue to effect friends, colleagues, and family, it is an issue both Victoria and I feel passionately about.
Woodland House will be the the UK's first stand-alone bereavement centre in a maternity setting. Woodland House will provide the dedicated facilities and non-clinical environment necessary to support high standards of care to to families dealing with the profound, long-lasting and devastating impact of a miscarriage, stillbirth or the death of a new-born baby.
Woodland House will also set new standards in pregnancy loss and end of life bereavement care to ensure that the services it provides are replicated throughout the NHS.
Pregnancy and baby loss still remains a taboo topic, and this needs to change. By supporting Woodland House you can help open up the conversation so that no family has to suffer in silence.
