Story
We have a plan as cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University...to raise some pennies and pounds in Dad's honour to the brain smackingly amazing Dementia Research Centre.
As all of us who loved Dad will know; he wasn't much for the serious stuff. More the fun stuff. Dancing, drinking, laughing. Lots of laughing.
But, on diagnosis with this rare and cruel f**ker of a condition (or Posterial Cortical Atrophy as they call it), Dad became utterly devoted to the idea of helping the ongoing research. The idea that his condition - and frankly, his suffering - would mean something. It would contribute to other people having a better shot at beating this in the future.
So, for the final ten years of his life, he was a committed member of the Dementia Research Centre at University College London, led by the types of brilliant people that gave him (and us) a much greater sense of hope in the world. The dedicated, kind and talented bunch at the DRC worked with Dad to put him through tests and exams on a regular basis, and he gave it absolutely everything and kept smiling. So hopeful by the promise of their research, Dad’s final act was to donate his brain to the Queen’s Square Brain Bank.
Ultimately, Dad wouldn't want a Just Giving Page in his memory to be dour or sorrowful. So none of that, please.
Dad would want people to have a drink (large), share a laugh (larger) and then give some money (largest) to this life changing Research Centre doing astounding things. Now that is a cunning plan.
We as his family will always be so proud of his priceless legacy.
