Story
I am taking part in a two-day 170 mile ride climbing 12,000 ft across the four counties of Northumberland, Cumbria, Newcastle upon Tyne and North Tyneside starting in the old market town of Hexham. Based on the south bank of the River Tyne, it forms the ‘confluence' of the tributary rivers which converge here, dubbed the ‘Meeting of the Waters’.
Starting on the Saturday morning, we will tackle South Tyne on day one, heading into the North Pennies - an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB), traversing Hadrian’s Wall a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picking up the North Tyne river, we will finish day one a stones throw from Kielder Water and Forest Park - Europe’s largest man-made lake.
Day two will see us move through Northumberland National Park to join the River Rede near the Cheviot Hills on the Scottish Border, returning to our starting point from Otterburn. Once at the Combined Tyne, we will follow the flow of the river to the picturesque and historic seaside town of Tynemouth, finishing our journey at the North Sea.
Each of us are aiming to raise £400, that's £10 for every year that NEAS have supported North East families.
