Story
For the last several weeks of his life, dad was cared for at the Marie Curie Hospice in Solihull. This amazing place provides expert care and support services to people with terminal illnesses and their loved ones, every day of the year. Here dad received 24-h care from the wonderful nurses, healthcare assistants, doctors, occupational and physical therapists, who are all supported by the many volunteers who play a vital role in the running of the hospice.
From dad's private room on the ground floor, we were able to walk straight out with him into the beautiful and extensive gardens - a treasured activity as we watched Spring turn into Summer. This was especially poignant, given dad's affinity for gardening and birds. The gracious tolerance of the staff also allowed us to work uninterrupted from various areas of the building, while spending the bulk of the day with dad. The catering staff not only looked out for dad and his needs, but also took care of us on occasion. Everyone was so kind and loving, and we treasured the experience.
It takes £10,000 per day to run the hospice, so we are grateful for every penny raised. Dad was an avid supporter of charities throughout his life, and we are happy he would approve. Thank you for honouring the memory of Roger in this way, and for helping to make sure those with a terminal illness, and families like us, get the care and support they need.
