Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In November 2013 we lost Merv to pancreatic cancer only 6 weeks after full diagnosis. He was a kind and selfless man, a loving father and an amazing grandparent. Sadly, this terrible disease means he never got to enjoy his well deserved retirement and he will miss so many happy times with the people he cared about so much.

We (along with Stacey's mum and brother) took on this challenge in his memory to raise awareness, and ultimately improve survival rates for pancreatic cancer patients.

Forty years ago few children survived childhood leukaemia - the survival rate is now 80%.

Forty years ago only 46% of women diagnosed with breast cancer survived five years or more - that figure is now 80%.

Forty years ago 3% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survived five years or more.  That figure is still 3%.

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.
