Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Susan, who was a Kiwi, died on 10th May 2020 of cancer aged 71 in Tauranga, New Zealand. We were married for 45 years and lived in the UK until 2018 when we went to live in New Zealand. I cared for her for several months until she died which became very difficult after she became paralyzed below the waist and bedridden. Unfortunately there is no equivalent to Macmillan in New Zealand.
Just before she died I was diagnosed with Myeloma, a type of blood cancer for which there is currently no cure and the average life expectancy for someone of my age is 5 years. I completed my first chemo in Tauranga, New Zealand and returned to the UK on 4th May 2021 when I had a second course of chemo. I can rely on Macmillan to support me as my illness progresses.
On my return I organised a sponsored walk along the 102 mile Macmillan Way West long distance path for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity which commenced on 28th July 2022 and finished on 7th August. Sue and I discussed this before she died and she loved the idea of me walking with our family and friends in her memory through countryside we had both walked together.
You can donate to Macmillan on this page. It is restricted to AUD, CAN, EUR and GBP currencies but further information to donate directly to Macmillan can be obtained by visiting my web site at www.harmonieii.co.uk.
JustGiving received much negative publicity over the charges they made for this service but have since allowed donations to be made without charge. From NZ you can email Macmillan at fundraising@macmillan.org.uk and they will provide you with their bank details to make a bank transfer directly to their account.
