Story
I live and breath adoption - working for Adoption UK full time and parenting our two awesome kids, during a global pandemic and through lockdown too.
I know how important it is to support families like mine, where children have experienced significant trauma and have a life long journey to repair the impact of early life experiences.
This year - Adoption UK turns 50, so I've set myself the challenge of running 50 x 10km runs, a minimum of one per week and also run the Virtual London Marathon in October.
I hope to raise at least £500 towards their grand total.
Please support me with a sponsor - a Penny for every kilometre I run in my 50 x 10kms would cost you £5... If 100 people could do that I'd hit my target! :-)
I'll be tracking my progress via strava each week - so you can keep an eye on me and make sure I don't miss a week too!
Adoption UK is 50! A big milestone, and an opportunity to pause, reflect and plan for the future.
For 50 years we have supported, advocated, championed and been there for adoptive families around the UK. Today our cause is as clear and compelling as ever; to secure the right support at the right time for the children at the heart of every adoptive and kinship care family.
These are tough times for every family, but particularly for those parenting children who've experienced trauma. Today, the average age for a child to be placed for adoption is 3, by which time most will have had grim early years. In the 1970s the legacy of early childhood trauma was poorly recognised and even more poorly understood.
Since then we've learned so much about the need to support parents and professionals, mostly by listening to adopters and adopted people. The children at the heart of our organisation deserve everything we can do to give them an equal chance after the most unequal starts.
