Story

  • 03.05.2022: This cycle ride is now complete, with 3,019 miles on the clock and OUR fund has closed at a massive £13,002!  THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING SUCH WONDERFUL DONORS AND TAKING PART IN OUR FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN! WE HAVE DONE IT OUR WAY AND MADE A DIFFERENCE FOR KIDS WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES RESULTING FROM COVID LOCKDOWN. WITH MY VERY BEST WISHES TO YOU ALL, ROB HEAP
  • 02.05.2022: I am very grateful to the lady & gentleman in The Ravenscar Tearooms for their last minute donation in cash, as I was retrieving the last of OUR fundraising cash boxes from The Ravenscar Tearooms. Last, but certainly not least, I wish to thank Lynne & Paul Butler, Delise & all of your staff at The Ravenscar Tearooms for your fantastic support in promoting OUR fundraising challenge and keeping OUR cash collection box on your cafe counter. Your support has been a key part of the latter stages of OUR Captain Tom 100 Challenge and, your food and drinks have been not only very welcome, but of course, delicious as usual! Thank you and Take Care! Hope to see you all again soon! Rob
  • 01.05.2022:  Just when I thought OUR fundraising was completed, some very kind and generous organisers of a local fundraising event for Ukrainian humanitarian aid, stepped up and gave me more cash donations this afternoon! I had been at the event, helping to raise money for the Ukrainian aid, selling Ukrainian flag button badges. I was very surprised to be the recipient of the donations, OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKETS, from the lovely organisers and helpers at the Moorland Railway charity fundraising afternoon. It seems like OUR Captain Tom Fundraising event doesn't want to stop, just yet!!! A big THANK YOU to Alan, Lisa, Jane & Sally and friends for your support and, for listening to how OUR Captain Tom Challenge has evolved! Love & Best Wishes, Rob
  • 30.04.2022:  What a wonderful way to finish this fundraising campaign, with so much generosity from people who have donated on line and in cash!!! I never expected to have received such a daily record beating injection of funds to OUR charity fundraising! I am overwhelmed! Cycling from the Ravenscar Tearooms to Sandsend in probably the best weather of this Spring became a very motivational experience today. I met and chatted to so many lovely people (& made friends with their pets) that made it a really great day. You all motivated me to cycle through the 3,000 miles target and I actually completed 3,019 miles by the end. I shall cherish your kindness and support for a long time and I shall remember this day at times when things are not going quite so well as today. I think there may be a few pledged donations to be deposited online and I look forward to seeing those come in before the fund closes tomorrow. Thank you all for everything you have done to make this fundraising campaign such a fantastic success. I wish you all the very best of health and happiness in whatever you do and wherever you are. Take Care. Much love, Rob x
  • 30.04.2022:  Today would have been Captain Sir Tom Moore's 102nd Birthday Anniversary. Coincidentally, this is the last day of my cycle ride on this 3,000 miles Captain Tom Fundraising event. I'm cycling on the Cinder Track from Ravenscar to Whitby, calling at Boggle Hole, & Robin Hood's Bay and cycling along the seafront at Sandsend. This is OUR final chance to push OUR fundraising total as high as possible. Please donate generously, THANK YOU! Rob
  • 27.04.2022: I wish to thank everyone that I met and chatted to between Scarborough & Whitby on the Cinder Track and on the seafronts today. You are all wonderful people and you motivate me to keep cycling, to reach out to even more people and encourage them to join OUR team of generous donors! Also, with the help of online donations, in addition to cash donated today, OUR fundraising total has shot up very quickly to within £10 of five times the total that I originally set. This is amazing and very overwhelming, THANK YOU!   With just 1 day to go (Saturday 30th April) to the finish of this epic fundraising and cycling campaign, I could not have wished for a better result to conclude this wonderful and motivational journey. With your help, it is a pleasure to have cycled (now) 2,985 miles for the Captain Tom Foundation. I wish you all the very best for your enjoyment of the North York Moors National Park and, if you see me on the tracks and trails again, please do stop me for a chat. Take Care, Stay Safe and be proud of what YOU have done to help kids with mental health issues resulting from Covid lockdown and associated events. I am proud of you all! Kindest regards, Rob Heap.
  • 24.04.2022: I decided to concentrate my cycling to the North of Ravenscar today and I have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the people I chatted to along the way! Although the weather was rather cool, the hearts of people were certainly very warm. I am very grateful and motivated by your kind words of encouragement and the cash and online donations that have been received on this platform today. I also wish to think in advance, those kind people who have pledged to donate on line. Thank you all and welcome to OUR charity fundraising! I hope you feel proud of what we all, together, have achieved here. I shall be cycling on the Cinder Track again later in the week and the final day of cycling will be on Saturday 30th April, with the fund closing on Sunday 1st May. Maybe the fund will reach £12,500 by then? If it doesn't, I will personally make up any shortfall. The cycled distance will break through the 3,000 miles before the finish, with only 59 miles to go. Take care & enjoy the North York Moors National Park, it is a special place. Best regards, Rob
  • 23.04.2022: I'm delighted to have met some wonderful people on the Cinder Track and Scarborough sea front today, who donated £79.14 in cash and those people who pledged to donate online. Thank you all for giving up your leisure time to chat to me, as I ride closer to the 3,000 miles target. I hope you are all proud of your kind generosity, in the knowledge that your gifts will help children with mental health issues resulting from Covid lockdown. I cycled quite leisurely today, due to the effect that the Beta-Blockers are having and, in the hope that I will be strong enough to cycle again tomorrow. I think I shall cycle to Whitby tomorrow and I hope to meet lots of people there and continue our fundraising.
  • The fund closes on 1st May and by then, I shall have cycled 3,000 miles around the North Yorks Moors in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore. It has been a pleasure to honour CT and to represent you all, thank you! Rob
  • 22.04.2022: I hope to see you this weekend, as we enter the last week of OUR fundraising. I will be cycling to achieve 3,000 miles on this journey AND I hope to get more donations to swell OUR fund even more. I look forward to chatting to lots more people this weekend.
  • 16.04.2022: YOU DID IT! We broke through the £12,000 fundraising target today! THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO SUPPORT OUR CAPTAIN TOM 100 (actually, 2853 miles, to date) CYCLE RIDE AROUND THE NORTH YORKSHIRE MOORS. YOU HAVE ALL BEEN VERY GENEROUS AND KIND AND I AM EXTREMELY GRATEFUL FOR YOUR SUPPORT.                   I have decided to continue cycling on OUR fundraising until the fund closes on 30th April, to clock up 3,000 miles cycled. The miles are not really the important part of this challenge, but raising a serious amount of money IS.  With online donations pledged and more people to make aware of our fundraising, I am sure we will get even more money to help the children with mental health issues as a result of COVID lockdown. It must be terrible that so many kids have lost almost 2 years of their normal childhood and social interaction with their friends. I cannot begin to contemplate what they are feeling. We are doing our best to help them lead a full and proper childhood again, so I thank you for your understanding and invaluable support! I hope you are all proud of what you have done. Take Care and enjoy the North York Moors National Park and all it has to offer!
  • 09.04.2022: It was great to be back at Sutton Bank / Boltby again today and good to see the folks at Paradise Farm cafe too. It was a difficult day due to the cold North Westerly wind and in the latter part of the afternoon, the snow arrived and finished off the day prematurely for many people. I was also struggling to find the energy to cycle back from Boltby Forest on my second "lap." Three weeks ago I had an atrial fibrillation attack and I have been on beta blockers and blood thinners, so I am not getting the fuel into my muscles like before - hence the difficulty riding the last few miles today. It was great to chat to as many of you as possible today on the trails and thank you to everyone who donated in cash to OUR fundraising event and to the people who pledged to donate on-line. I cannot do this without your moral and financial kindness and generosity, THANK YOU! I'll be back on the same trails again tomorrow and maybe I will see some of you again? I think I'll pace myself a bit better and stay clear of the boggy ground, which really was an energy sapper. Take Care! Rob
  • 03.04.2022: Cycling the Cinder Track again today, where I met some lovely and generous people, who donated in cash, or pledged to donate on line. Thank you all so very much for your gracious donations. You are now part of OUR charity fundraising and I hope you feel proud of that!  I hope that lady that had taken a fall after tripping on an exposed tree root on the Cinder Track, near Quarry Farm, Staintondale is feeling more comfortable this evening. I wish you a speedy recovery!  It was a changeable day of cool winds when the sun went behind the clouds, but quite warm sunshine when it ventured out. The Cinder Track was fairly quiet, probably as a result of the weather. I have been on beta-blockers for almost 3 weeks now, following a return of atrial fibrillation that I had several years ago, so I am struggling to make my usual pace and, climbing up the hill out of Robin Hood's Bay, was a struggle today. I shall be cycling next Saturday and Sunday on the trails at Sutton Bank and on part of the Cleveland Way North of High Paradise Farm & Cafe. However, I shall return to the Cinder Track to cycle again during the Easter Weekend and I hope to see some of you again then. Meanwhile, with grateful thanks for your support, take care! Rob
  • 13.03.2022: It was great to be back, cycling along the Cinder Track today, despite the very strong and cold South Easterly wind, early this morning. As the day progressed, the wind eased and at times, there was sunshine to remind us that Spring is not far away. I met and chatted to some lovely people, received £65.60 in cash donations and a further online donation from someone I met at Boggle Hole this afternoon. I am very grateful to you all for your kindness and generosity, thank you! Please feel part of OUR charity fundraising, because you motivate me to keep cycling to raise even more donations and I cannot do this without YOU! Take Care and I hope to meet some of you again in the course of my Captain Tom 100 Challenge.
  • 24.02.2022: If anyone is in doubt about how YOUR kind and generous donations are being distributed, I have received written confirmation from the Captain Tom Foundation, that. All of the funds that we raise for the Captain Tom 100 Challenge will be distributed equally between Young Minds, The Mix and Place2Be. These are the three charities that were originally chosen as beneficiaries of OUR fundraising activity, and, who will support children with mental health issues resulting from Covid lockdown.
  • I shall soon be back on the trails to make people aware of the campaign and to encourage people to donate to OUR fundraising activity. Thank you all and I hope to see you soon!  Kindest regards, Rob
  • 16.01.2022: Happy New(ish) Year! I'm getting out on my bike again after 3 months of working on the house and, of course, spending time with my family at Christmas. I have lost some fitness, so I will be doing some re-training to get myself to a fitness level that I will be happy with. Then, I shall be venturing across the North York Moors again to continue raising money for the Captain Tom Foundation and to help children that have mental health issues as a result of Covid lockdown and all the various problems that children and their families have endured during this time. I hope to see many of you again and, or course lots of people that I have yet to meet! I shall be keeping this fundraising open until the 1st anniversary of when it began - 14th April 2021, so I hope we can achieve / exceed a new target of £12,000 in our fund before it closes! Thank you all for the significant part that you have all played in this fundraising event. I love you all! Rob
  • 25.12.2021: Happy Christmas everyone and I hope 2022 is very kind to you! Take Care & Stay Safe! Love to you all!
  • 25.12.2021: I hope to be getting back on Forest Rips to cycle the fundraising trail again in the new year. I have decided to keep the fund open for exactly 1 year, so it will definately close on 14th April 2022, to give us all more time to get as many donations in the fund as possible. £12,500 would be a nice round total + Gift Aid contributions, so I hope we can get there, with your help.
  • 03.10.2021: I have extended OUR fund donation deadline to 15th January 2022, so we can get to and past the £12,000 donated level. PLEASE KEEP DONATING. See you soon!

  • 23.09.21: This Saturday afternoon (25th September), HACKNESS MUSIC LIVE are organising an acoustic music gig, in aid of OUR Captain Tom Fundraising! I'm really looking forward to this and I want to send out a BIG Thank You to the Hackness Music Live organisers for this very kind gesture!
  • I will be cycling on the Cinder Track again on Sunday 26th September and I look forward to seeing lots of you there
  • 17.09.21: I JUST HAVE TO GET ON MY BIKE AGAIN, TO TRY AND GET OUR FUND TO £11,000! I WILL BE ON THE CINDER TRACK THIS WEEKEND & LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU THERE!
  • The fund will remain open until at least the end of September, to allow pledged donations to be made
  • Please continue to donate and make a difference to the children with mental health issues as a result of Covid lockdown measures
  • Thank you all for your wonderful support of this fundraising challenge!

         Best Wishes to you all!

Thanks to everyone who has continued to donate to OUR charity while I have been off my bike! You are why I want to get back on the trails again.....OUR Captain Tom Challenge IS NOT OVER, it has just paused for a while!.... Things have not been going as expected with the work on the house. Had some new dormer windows installed, but during the work, lots of other timber supporting the dormer windows was found to be rotting and in need of replacement. This has turned out to be a larger and more time consuming job than expected. I'll be back on my bike as soon as I can, but with winter coming and daylight shortening, I really must get the windows weather tight before I get out again. Hope you understand? Thank you! Rob

Message 03.10.21

Having some joinery work done at home, which I need to manage, so I won't be cycling for a few days, possibly a couple of weeks.

Hope to see you again, soon! Meanwhile, take care, Rob

Message 26.09.21

It was great to be back on the Cinder Track again today and what a glorious day it was for the end of September! Once again, I met some really wonderful and interesting people during my cycle journey, some of whom I have met before - sometimes more than once, which is great. I want to thank you all who have donated, either by giving me cash (added to our fund this evening = £74.90, well done), or those people who I met today that have already donated on line and those people who pledged to donate and will do so at their convenience. You are all wonderful people who have/will join OUR fundraising to help children that have suffered mental health issues (directly or indirectly) due to Covid 19 lockdown and associated family struggles. I am really proud of your gracious generosity and I hope you all feel proud to be part of this too! It looks like we are on the way to £12,000 now, but let's see if more donations come in and, providing people keep visiting the places that I cycle on, as autumn develops, then I will cycle again to ensure OUR charity reaches £12,000! Take Care, Stay Safe & Enjoy your activities in the North York Moors National Park! Best Wishes, Rob

Message 19.09.21

With conflicting weather forecasting about when it would start raining today (range 09:00 to 16:00) it was not a suprise that despite the recurring warm temperature, some people were not so keen to venture onto the Cinder Track today, when compared to yesterday. However, I still met a lot of lovely people and chatted to them about the Captain Tom Challenge and received a lot of moral support, donations in cash (added to OUR fund this evening) and pledges of donations. It was rather untimely that just as I was going down the steep hill down to Robin Hood's Bay seafront, the heavens opened and everyone (including me) took for cover! Following the 15 - 20 minute deluge, not many people were left for me to chat to. However, when I had cycled almost to the top of the steep hill, I heard a great bellow "Captain Tom - Hello Rob, Good to See You Again!" It was Jonathan and his family, who I had met several weeks ago in Dalby Forest and who had kindly donated and wanted to get an update on OUR progress. Jonathan does charity work himself for armed forces personnel rehabilitation and his work is invaluable. I mention this, because it is yet another really wonderful thing that has happened to me on this journey and this is not the first time that I have met for the second, third or even a fourth time, people that have kindly and generously donated to OUR charity. I find this very motivational and great to have the opportunity to personally update donors on how our family of donors has grown, along with OUR fund total. Speaking of which, we are now only just over a £100 away from OUR latest fundraising target, so maybe we will get there when the pledged online donations are made. Thank you all so much for being an essential part of this campaign!

I was contacted this evening by the organisers of HACKNESS MUSIC LIVE who have arranged for a local group of musicians to play at an invitation only music session this Saturday (25th September) to raise money for charity. They have invited me to their session, because THEY WANT THE PROCEEDS FROM THE EVENT TO GO TO OUR CAPTAIN TOM FUNDRAISING CHALLENGE !!! I am absolutely delighted about this and of course, I will attend and have the chance to meet the invited guests to make them aware of the plight of the children with mental health issues resulting from Covid lockdown and, secure as much support as I can for OUR campaign. THANK YOU, HACKNESS MUSIC LIVE!

Message 18.09.21

It was great to be back on the Cinder Track Today and what perfect weather, too! I was so happy to continue the fundraising for the children that need support for mental health issues, resulting from Covid lockdown. It is an issue that I have become passionate about and, from what I am hearing from most people that I have met on the journey, it seems you agree that WE are supporting a very worthwhile campaign here. Today, I met a lot of walkers and cyclists on the Cinder Track and at the usual hospitality venues along the way. Some of you I have met before, earlier on my cycling journey and I was absolutely delighted that you put your hands in your pockets and donated AGAIN, which is absolutely wonderful! Unfortunately for OUR fundraising, there was a fundraising event at Robin Hood's Bay seafront for the RNLI today, so I did not hijack their campaign, because they do some great work out at sea. However, todays cash and pledged internet donations totalled well over £200, so I am delighted with that response and wish to Thank You all for being so kind and generous today, well done! OUR charity fundraising is now well on the way to breaking through the £11,000 target, which is more than I could have ever imagined was possible. I hope you are all proud of being a vital part of this fundraising campaign - you should be! I'm sending a big Thank You to you all and may you Take Care, Stay Safe and Healthy and have lots of fun, whatever you do / wherever you do it! Best Wishes, Rob

Message 17.09.21

Thanks to everyone who has pushed our total donated well though the £10,000 level. I will now be riding on the Cinder Track between Scarborough & Robin Hood's Bay this weekend, to try and get OUR fund close to, or past £11,000!!! I hope to see you on the journey.

Kind regards,

Rob

Message 02.09.21

I walked into Coast & Country Radio 97.4 on Northway, Scarborough, this lunchtime and found myself in the studio for a few minutes live chat about OUR fundraising event around 1:20pm. Thanks to the guys at Coast & Country Radio for making time for an unexpected addition to your schedule today!

Kind regards, Rob

Message 30.08.21

It was a shame the weather was changeable today. However, that did not deter people from kindly donating a fantastic amount of cash, as I rode the Cinder Track for the last time on the Captain Tom "100" Challenge. Thank you all for your gracious donations and also for your very kind words of encouragement. I thought this would be an emotional last day and, as I rode down the hill towards Robin Hood's Bay seafront, the number of people who donated what they had available was a wonderful demonstration of unselfish support for OUR Charity, brought forth my tears of joy, behind my sunglasses! So, it's over and I need time to reflect on the journey that, with all of your support has encouraged me to complete 2,050.2 miles (see photo gallery) of cycling (originally planned to be 100 miles) across the North York Moors. On the way, you took the time to listen, to understand the gravity of OUR Challenge and you stepped up to the challenge of donating so freely to get OUR Charity to £10,471 at the time of writing. THANK YOU!!!
The fund will remain open for at least one more month, to allow pledged donations to be made. I planned that today was the last day of cycling. However, if the fund continues to climb to (say) £10,750, then I might be tempted to get Forest Rips out on the Cinder Track again and push our fundraising along to £11,000. Let's watch this page and see what happens.

I shall write a summary update on my thoughts, when appropriate in the next week or so. In the meantime, I would like to personally thank you all for the tremendous support you have given me and I know that OUR Charity fund will bring hope to children that find themselves in a difficult and often confusing situation, due to Covid lockdown measures. Please Take Care, Stay Safe and, be proud of what we have achieved! Sincerely, Rob

The final day of cycling on this fundraising challenge. Let's make it one to remember, with lots of generous donations! Thank You! Rob

A special thank you, to Tina & Olli from Nürnberg, who I met on the Cinder Track, between Ravenscar and Boggle Hole yesterday. I wish you safe travelling home! Rob

Message 29.08.21

What a great day this turned out to be! The mileage clocked up is now 2,014 and with the fund now standing at £10,287, that is just over £5.10 raised / mile cycled, which I am extremely happy with!  After a chilly start, the weather improved gradually as the day progressed and I met many more people than normal on my journey from Ravenscar to Scarborough & back to Hawsker, via. Hayburn Wyke Inn, Ravenscar Tearooms, Ravenscar National Trust Shop, the YHA & Quarterdeck Cafe at Boggle Hole and on my way down to and back up from the seafront at Robin Hood's Bay. Everyone was very kind, generous and happy to donate, either online, or in cash. I hope you all feel part of OUR Charity fundraising event and that you also feel proud to have donated and become part of it. Tomorrow is the last day of cycling for me on this fundraising event and I hope to see lots of people on the Cinder Track and the aforementioned hospitality venues, along the way. I hope we can end the event with a big day of donations to round off what has been a wonderful response from all of YOU! Thank you all so much, you have been wonderful!!! Take Care, Stay Safe & Enjoy yourselves. Best regards, Rob

Message 28.08.21

It was better than forecasted weather today between Scarborough and Whitby and, with lots of people taking the opportunity to enjoy it, I was able to stop on the Cinder Track and in the usual hospitality venues only the way, to chat to people about OUR charity fundraising event. OUR fund continues to grow, beyond the £10,000 target and I am extremely grateful to you all for continuing to support OUR event, with even more kind and generous donations! I shall be cycling on the same route again tomorrow (Sunday 29th August) so I hope to see some of you again and, meet some more people too! I have decided to stop cycling at the end of Bank Holiday Monday (30th August) but the fund on this Just Giving Page will continue to accept donations online until 30th September. I hope I can persuade people to keep donating to OUR Charity and, that the fund will rise nicely above £10,000. I have now completed 1,978 miles on "Forest Rips" (my bike) and every mile of the event has been a great pleasure and a wonderful experience. However, all great things must come to an end and, I have decided to do this while the event remains fresh and relevant. I do not wish to over-expose the event and risk people becoming tired of donating. I think that to quit while we are ahead is the best way and I hope that everyone who has supported OUR event will accept that WE (everyone who has made this fund-raising become a huge success) will be proud and happy to have played a part in it. During the next 2 days, I will have probably added another 40 - 50 miles of cycling to the total, so 2,000+ miles will have been achieved. The reliability and performance of my TREK bike (Forest Rips) has been outstanding and I am grateful that it has helped me to concentrate on making people aware of, and being able to donate to, OUR fundraising event, to help Children with mental health illnesses, as a result of COVID lockdown. Take Care & Stay Safe! Rob

Message 24.08.21

Mr. Kelly, thank you very much for your kind and very generous donation that has taken OUR fundraising beyond the £10,000 target!

The generosity of everyone who has donated to OUR charity has allowed us to reach this wonderful sum. I am extremely grateful to you all for your contributions in cash, online donations, pledged online donations and, for encouraging me to keep cycling! I wish I could thank everyone personally for your support. However, I hope you all know how much I value and appreciate your contributions, that will help some children to overcome mental health issues they have as a result of Covid lockdown.

I shall be cycling on the Cinder Track again this coming weekend and continuing the campaign to boost the fund even higher. Kindest regards, Rob

Message 22.08.21

I had an overwhelming experience when I was presented with a suprise donation at the Hayburn Wyke Inn, off the Cinder Track, Near Cloughton today. This, together with the other kind and generous cash donations and pledges of online donations I received today means that OUR fundraising total is sure to pass the £10,000 target in a few days time! This is really exciting and I hope that everyone, and I mean everyone, that has contributed in kind, in cash, online and in pledges that will become donations, will feel very proud of what WE are achieving here! OUR fundraising is going to bring some children's lives out of a dark and unrecognisable place, to somewhere they can have hope and begin to live their lives as close as possible to pre-Covid lockdown times. That has to be something to feel good about. However, we are not quite there yet and, the more donations that we can get, to exceed our £10,000 target, the better. Please keep donating if you can, THANK YOU! I have now cycled 1,942 miles of my 2,000 miles (updated) target and that equates to an average of £5.10 raised per mile of cycling, which I am absolutely delighted with! I'll be riding on the Cinder Track again next weekend and calling at Hayburn Wyke Inn, Ravenscar Tearooms, the National Trust Ravenscar shop, The Quarterdeck YHA cafe at Boggle Hole & the Bay Hotel at Robin Hood's Bay seafront. Meanwhile, I wish you all a great week of fun! Take Care, Stay Safe & Best Wishes, Rob

Message 21.08.21

The rain made for a quiet Cinder Tack and nearby hospitality attractions. Although, several people stopped and chatted to me about OUR charity ride and fundraising and I am grateful to you all for taking the time to do that! You donated a valuable sum in cash today and I have transferred this to OUR fund this evening - THANK YOU! We are very close to the £10,000 target now and I look forward to seeing the online donations that have been pledged, take us even closer! I hope you all feel proud of being part of OUR charity, through your gracious donations. I am certainly proud to be your conduit to the fundraising event and, despite today's weather, it is a pleasure, as always to cycle around the North York Moors National Park on behalf of the Captain Tom Foundation, to help children with mental health issues as a result of Covid lockdown. Irrespective of the weather, I shall be riding on the Cinder Track again tomorrow and I may see some of you again then - please make yourselves known to me, but don't jump out on my way down to Robin Hood's Bay seafront / The Bay Hotel / Coast to Coast finish, or we may both get a bit closer than intended! Take Care, Stay Safe and have fun! Rob

Message 15.08.21

It was another great day for stopping and chatting to people on the Cinder Track between Scarborough & Hawsker. It was also good to chat to so many people at Hayburn Wyke, Ravenscar Tearooms, Ravenscar National Trust Shop, Boggle Hole Cafe and in Robin Hood's Bay today. You have all been very kind with your  encouraging comments and generous cash, online and pledged donations. Welcome to OUR charity! I really think the amount of money that WE have raised is going to make a difference. Like Captain Tom did, "We are doing it OUR way!" The weather was very changeable, with sunshine in Scarborough, rain at Hayburn Wyke, low cloud and poor visibility at Ravenscar, a mixture of sunshine and showers at Robin Hood's Bay and rain at Hawsker. But this did not stop us from enjoying ourselves and getting ever closer to the £10,000 fundraising target. I cycled 45 miles today = 1,817 miles cycled on this fundraising event. I think 2,000 miles is easily possible now. Which target is achieved first (£10,000 or 2,000 miles) I cannot predict, but whichever is the latter, that will be achieved, for certain. To everyone who has donated to OUR charity, please feel an important part of it, because YOU are all making a very important contribution to the success of OUR charity fundraising. Please Take Care, Stay Safe and have a wonderful time in the North Yorks Moors National Park! Thank You & Best Wishes, Rob

As I cycled the usual Cinder Track Route today, I met lots of lovely people who were interested in OUR charity fundraising event for the children with mental health issues, resulting from Covid lockdown. You are all so kind with your words of encouragement and good wishes and you have been very kind in donating cash, donating online and pledging to donate at your convenience. I feel very humbled by your gracious giving and I hope you are proud of being part of OUR charity. With today's donations, at the time of writing (20:30) we have raised over £9,500 and for that, I thank you very sincerely. A lot of people ventured out to the Cinder Track and the hospitality establishments along the way and I was very happy to have chatted to you today. I do hope you will keep visiting this Just Giving page, to track the progress of OUR charity. I hope you enjoyed your day and that the weather next week is better for you than currently forecasted. I shall be cycling on the Cinder Track again tomorrow and I hope to see some of you again. Today's mileage is 45 = 1,768 miles in total for OUR charity. Take Care, Stay Safe & Have Fun! Thank you, Rob

At risk of repeating myself (but good things are worth repeating, aren't they?) once again, I met some wonderful, kind and generous people today as I cycled on the Cinder Track between Scarborough and Whitby, calling at Hayburn Wyke, Ravenscar Tearooms, Ravenscar National Trust Shop, Boggle Hole cafe & The Bay Hotel at Robin Hood's Bay. A few people had their heads low and struggled to speak, but giving them the benefit of the doubt, it probably wasn't their day today, like it was OURS! I am so pleased to have met so many people who kindly donated cash, have donated on line, or have pledged to donate on line at their convenience. Welcome, everyone to OUR charity! I hope you feel proud to be part of it! We will get to the £10,000 target and now it is just over £550 away, so with another few days cycling and, given the generosity of some more donors, we can get there and make a difference for children with mental health issues resulting from Covid lockdown. This is most important. I will keep cycling until we have reached or exceeded the £10,000 target. Today was nice weather, save for a strong and blustery wind, which made cycling interesting in the higher and exposed parts of the Cinder Track. I hope you all enjoyed your day out in the bracing wind? I cycled 49 miles today = 1,723 miles in total around the North York Moors Park for OUR charity. Maybe I will get to 2,000 miles, but that's not as important as meeting more people and maying them aware of the plight of the children that OUR charity is going to help. I shall be cycling on the Cinder Track again tomorrow (Sat 14th) and on Sunday 15th August and I hope to see some of you again then. Thank you all so very, very much for your time, kindness and generosity. I wish you all the very best of health and happiness! Kind regards, Rob

To Sue & Stuart, Yes I remember chatting with you between Osmotherley and Black Hambleton a couple of weeks ago. Thank you so much for your kind comments and VERY GENEROUS donation. It is knowing that lots of people care about OUR charity fundraising and have supported it so amazingly, that I am inspired to keep cycling. Take Care & Very Best Wishes, Rob

Message 08.08.21:

It was a challenging day for everyone who decided to brave the unpredictable weather. The meteorologist term "Scattered showers" certainly applied to today's downpours, as I cycled 52 miles on the Cinder Track = 1,674 miles in total. Some of the "showers" were very heavy indeed, and also prolonged. I was especially glad to have been able to seek shelter at the Ravenscar Tearooms, in the old Ravenscar railway station square, where the rain was literally bouncing off the road for several minutes. Even though I had full wet weather cycling gear with me, going out in that torrential rain would have been no fun at all. Consequently, only the brave were venturing onto the Cinder Track today and, in many cases, I did not wish to stop and chat to folks about OUR charity fundraising event, when they were clearly going to get soaked. The few people that I did chat to about the fundraising today, were very interested and have kindly donated in cash, which has been transferred to OUR fund this evening. Thanks to the two cyclists who were the temporary custodians of my sun glasses (or should I say rain glasses!) when I inadvertently left them on a bench near to the old allum mine site. To those people who have come to enjoy a break / holiday the Scarborough to Whitby area of the North Yorks National Park, I really hope the weather improves for you, as it is forecasted to do, this week. To everyone who has joined OUR fundraising charity, by donating in cash, or online, I send you a BIG Thank You! I hope you are proud of what you have selflessly done to help the children who, through no fault of their own, or their family, have found themselves in a situation that they don't understand and are being / have been mentally affected. I look forward to seeing the pledged donations being added to OUR fund in the fullness of time. I hope that all donors will feel that you are a valuable part of OUR charity and you will be proud of your decision to donate. Please Take Care, Stay Safe and with Best Wishes, enjoy yourselves. Sincerely, Rob

Message 07.08.21:

A big THANK YOU to everyone that I met and chatted to as I cycled on the Cinder Track, and especially the kind and generous people who have donated cash or online and become part of OUR charity fundraising event, today! I look forward to seeing the remaining promised donations be added online in due course. I think most of us were surprised that the forecasted rain did not arrive and, save for a few spots of rain here and there, we were all able to enjoy a dry, if blustery day. Our fund has increased by £101 so far today and I cycled another 48 miles today = 1,626 miles in total for this fundraising bike ride. To all the folks I met at Hayburn Wyke, Ravenscar Tearooms, Ravenscar National Trust Shop, The Raven Hall Hotel, Boggle Hole YMCA & cafe and near the seafront in Robin Hood's Bay, I hope you had a good refreshments break and that you were not offended by me interrupting your relaxations? It is important that I make as many people aware of the plight of the children that are suffering from mental health problems as a result of Covid lockdown, so thank you for your time today, I appreciate your kindness. Tomorrow, I shall be cycling the cinder track and dropping in to the above mentioned rest stops on the way, so I hope to see some of you again, en-route. Thank you all for being part of OUR fundraising event and I hope you are proud of joining us! Take Care, Stay Safe and Best Wishes, Rob

Message 05.08.21:

I cycled from Sainsbury's car park in Falsgrave, Scarborough to Whitby and back today, calling at Hayburn Wyke, Ravenscar Tearooms, Boggle Hole, Robin Hood's Bay and riding through Burniston High Street and Hawsker on the way. The mileage is now 1,578 and it looks like maybe 1,750 or more miles will be cycled before OUR fund reaches £10,000 - bring it on! Once again, I chatted to some interesting, kind and generous people as I cycled around and it was a pleasure to meet you all! Very grateful thanks to you for your time and the cash donations that you gave me, which have been added to our Just Giving Captain Tom 100 challenge fund this evening. To Gavin Kearney & Family, thanks for your kind and generous donation and welcome to OUR charity! To those people who promised to donate by using the QR code I gave you, thank you very much, in anticipation! I look forward to seeing you join OUR charity fundraising event, soon! Once again, the weather held fine until this evening, despite the strong and gusting wind making it a bit more tricky to cycle on the exposed parts of the Cinder Track. The £10,000 target is gradually getting closer and it now looks like we will not reach that before Sunday 8th August, so I shall just keep cycling until we get there. I am so motivated by what Captain Tom did for the UK population and the NHS, that there is no possibility of me stopping before we get £10,000 in OUR fund. Thank you all for your continued support and I hope you are tracking our progress? I look forward to meeting some of you again and in the meantime, everyone, please Take Care, Stay Safe & Best Wishes! Rob

Message 04.08.21:

As Scarborough suffered flash floods and thunder boomed over Whitby, the Cinder Track between Burniston and Robin Hood's Bay remained dry and mostly sunny until late afternoon. Thank you to everyone who I met and chatted to today about OUR charity fundraising event and, to everyone who donated in cash, online and those people who have promised to donate online when they can. I am very motivated by your generosity and kindness and I hope you are proud of being part of OUR charity. We are edging closer to £9,000 now and I shall keep riding until we have raised £10,000 or more for Young Minds, The Mix & Place2Be - the charities that help children and young adults to recover and re-integrate into society, following Covid lockdown induced mental health issues. The total miles cycled on this journey is now 1,528 and that is equal to £5.74 raised / mile of cycling, so that is definitely energy well expended! Tomorrow, I shall be riding on the Cinder Track from Scarborough to Robin Hood's Bay and back, stopping at Hayburn Wyke, Ravenscar Tearooms, National Trust Shop, Boggle Hole Cafe & Robin Hood's Bay. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible, on the way. Take Care, Stay Safe and Best Wishes! Rob

Message 03.08.21:

Today's weather was better than forecasted, with a brisk breeze, but long periods of warm sunshine prevailed, well into the evening. I met lots of interesting and kind people on the Cinder Track today, who were extremely generous with their cash and online donations, while other people I chatted to have pledged to donate on line when it is convenient for them. Thank You All, for joining OUR Charity fundraising and making a big difference to help children with mental health issues as a result of Covid lockdown. I was especially pleased to meet, at Ravenscar and Hayburn Wyke, some old (well one of them was old) friends who I worked with several decades ago. Great to see you Mick & Laura - best wishes to you both! With lots of people to see, I only cycled 34 miles today, but the mileage is of least importance. Meeting and chatting to the people on the Cinder Track, at Hayburn Wyke, Ravenscar, Boggle Hole & Robin Hood's Bay was far more important and interesting! I hope you all enjoyed your day as much as I did and, that one day, our paths will cross again - soon. I shall be cycling along the same parts of the Cinder Track and watering places tomorrow, so if you see me, please make yourselves known and we can have a short catch up, which would be great. Take Care, Stay Safe and, with Thanks and Best Wishes, enjoy yourselves! Rob

Message 02.08.21:

With a very grateful and big fat THANK YOU to the Aqua Group for their huge donation to OUR fundraising event, today! Every donation, no matter how small or large in money, or in kind, is precious to me. The wonderful support that everyone has given me during OUR fundraising campaign, has motivated me to keep going, like Captain Tom did! I hope that everyone who has participated in OUR charity fundraising will agree with me that the Aqua Group donation now makes it possible for us to get to a massive £10,000 raised, before the fund closes later this month. I have just received confirmation that Scarborough News are putting an article in this Thursday's newspaper and in their online platform. I am hoping this additional exposure will encourage more people to donate than I can hope to reach during my cycle ride. I am very excited to have a new target, and one that never in my wildest dreams, did I think would be attainable. Please spread the word about OUR fundraising and thank you all for the great support that you have provided thus far. I am so proud of what WE are ALL doing here!!!  Kindest regards, Rob

Message 01.08.21:

Nice weather for cycling today, not too hot and another 43 miles completed = 1,437 in total. This was the last day of my cycling in the Sutton Bank / Cleveland Way / Osmotherley area. I went off piste to Hawnby this afternoon and met some wonderful people on the way and outside The Owl pub. Thank you most sincerely for your kind donations! As you will have seen, OUR charity fund-raising has increased quite significantly this weekend and we have £8,000 in sight now. I would like to publicly offer a BIG FAT THANK YOU to Chris Pye and his team at Sutton Bank Visitor Centre, for allowing me to use the facility as a base for the Hambleton part of OUR fundraising cycle ride. It has been very successful. Today, as before, I met lots of lovely people on my ride to Osmotherley and back. Your kind and generous cash donations, together with the on fantastic on line donations and pledges mean a lot to me and, you all inspire me to do the best I can to surpass our £8,000 target. Thank you, and I sincerely hope you feel proud to be a part of this charity fundraising event! The cycling now moves to the Cinder Track (disused railway line) between Scarborough and Whitby, where I shall be riding on 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th & 8th August and finishing the ride at the seafront at Robin Hood's Bay around 4pm on Sunday 8th August. If some of you are going to the Cinder Track or Robin Hood's Bay on the dates that I am riding, please make yourselves known to me as I cycle along. It would be lovely to see some of you again! While to riding on the Cinder Track is not that challenging, I am expecting to meet lots of people to make aware of OUR charity fundraising event and, I hope to be able to bring many more people into OUR family of donors and keep the fund total ticking along, right to and beyond the end of the ride next Sunday. Please continue to return to this page to track OUR progress and I shall write an update each evening of the remaining 5 days of cycling. Meanwhile, Take Care, Stay Safe and Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead! Sincerely Grateful, Rob

Message 31.07.21:

What looked like another showery day, turned out quite pleasant. On the Cleveland Way between Sutton Bank Visitor Centre and Osmotherley. I have now cycled 1,394 miles and OUR charity is getting ever closer to £8,000!!! Of course, I shall keep cycling and chatting to people on my travels, to keep our fundraising momentum going right up to the last turn of my pedals, when I get to the sea front at Robin Hood's Bay on Sunday 8th August. We will get as much in our fundraising as possible, to help the children with mental health issues resulting from Covid lockdown. It was a great pleasure to meet you all today and thank you all for your very kind and generous donations. The horse riders on their way to Snake Yate were very kind and generous with their cash donations too. I hope you all enjoyed your day out and you were able to keep dry for most of the day? I have met people from far reaches of the British Isles today and a family living in Switzerland, so I am very pleased that awareness of our charity fundraising is becoming internationally received! We have had donations from several overseas people. It is very moving to know that Captain Tom's marathon walk around his garden is internationally recognised. He is my inspiration and I shall keep going in honour of what he did for the UK population at our time of need. Thank you all for joining OUR charity. I hope you are proud of what we are doing. I shall be cycling at Sutton Bank / Cleveland Way again tomorrow, then on the Scarborough to Whitby Cinder Track on 3rd, 4th, 5th , 7th & 8th August. Please keep revisiting this page to get updated on our progress on the final week to the finish of my journey at Robin Hood's Bay. Thank You and Kindest regards, Rob

Message 29.07.21:

With a strong North Westerly wind and threatening showers, this morning was very quiet on the Cinder Track between Scarborough and Robin Hood's Bay. I cycled 49 miles today and, as the weather seemed to be set dry, more people ventured along the Cinder Track, cafes and pubs along the way, I was able to meet some more lovely people, who donated in cash and pledged to donate online. I want to thank you all for your kind and generous donations to OUR charity and I hope you feel proud of helping children with Covid lockdown induced mental health issues. With 7 more days of cycling to do at Sutton Bank / Cleveland Way and on the Cinder Track, I am hoping to meet lots more people in the hope that they will join us and make donations to OUR charity, to get the fund over £8,000, which be be absolutely wonderful. I have added a couple of new photos to the gallery today. There's a photo of me pedalling up the steep hill from Robin Hood's Bay shoreline, back onto the Cinder Track and a photo taken near the site of the old Allum Mine, to the North of Ravenscar. I am hoping to get an article in the weekly Scarborough News next Thursday, so please look out for that. Thanks to RobS for chatting to me about his Blood Cancer fundraising bike ride and, also thanks Rob, for your kind donation to OUR charity! I have tried to find your specific charity page at Blood Cancer UK, but I could not find it. If you read this and can help me find your page, somehow, I will gladly reciprocate and donate to your fundraising event. I look forward to getting back in the saddle on Saturday for the last weekend at Sutton Bank, followed by next Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and the weekend of 7th & 8th of August, on the Cinder Track. I hope to see lots of you on my travels! Meanwhile, Take Care, Stay Safe and Best Wishes, Rob

Message 25.07.21:

Driving towards Sutton Bank visitor centre from Helmsley this morning and looking towards the North West, I could see leadened skies over what I think was High Paradise Farm. I was expecting a wet day and not to see many people braving the weather. What a pleasant suprise it was to witness just a few light spots of rain, around 9:30am at the visitor centre and to enjoy a dry, fine day of cycling on the Cleveland Way over the moor to Osmotherley and back! It's always nice to have a better than expected experience and, today I was able to meet a lot of wonderful people out on the trails and Bridleways. A very big THANK YOU, to everyone who donated cash to me today. Your kind donations have been added to OUR charity this evening. To everyone who has donated online today, a big THANK YOU, to you also. I look forward to the people that have promised to donate, join OUR charity in due course. You are all a very precious part of this fundraising event and I hope you will be proud of  being part of it. I cycled 39 miles today and the milage is almost 1,300 now, so 1,500 miles is easily possible by the finish on Sunday 8th August at Robin Hood's Bay. However, it is the fundraising that is the most important part of this, and I am absolutely delighted that we are now very close to reaching £7,000!!! Thanks to all of you! I have another 8 days of cycling to complete. Thursday (29th July) I shall be riding the Cinder Track between Scarborough & Robin Hood's Bay and back. Next weekend, I shall be back at Sutton Bank visitor centre, cycling along the Cleveland Way & visiting High Paradise Farm and Osmotherley. I hope to see some of you then and, please, stop me and make yourself known to me again, for a chat. In the meantime, I wish you all a wonderful week ahead and as usual, Take Care, Stay Safe & Best Wishes! Thank you, Rob

Message 24.07.21:

I continue to be overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of people who, while in the countryside to enjoy a nice day, suddenly find themselves chatting to me about our fundraising to help Covid lockdown induced mentally affected children. Thank you all for your time and, especially for being part of OUR fundraising activity. Today, I cycled 44 miles and once again I met some wonderful people at the Sutton Bank visitor centre, High Paradise Farm, en-route in-between, and beyond, towards Osmotherley. Everyone encouraged me to continue riding, and, with the determination of Captain Tom, I shall certainly do that and garner as much support for our charity as I can, until the riding has to stop on Sunday 8th August. That will be a day of mixed emotions. The fact that together, we have achieved so much, contrasted with the ending of this wonderful journey, is likely to be an emotional day for me. Many people that I met today promised to donate online and I see that some of you have already done so, thank you so much for being part of this event! I look forward to everyone who has pledged donate will soon join us and will feel proud of being able to help us to get support to the children who, through no fault of their own are not enjoying a normal childhood and therefore are suffering with a mental health condition that, due to their young years, are unable to understand what is happening to them. Thank you all! Take Care, Stay Safe and Very Best Wishes, Rob

Message 22.07.21:

Today I rode from Sainsbury's car park in Scarborough to Robin Hood's Bay, took a few detours on the way and way back and rode 42 miles, to finish on 1,210 miles for the ride so far. As usual, I met and chatted to some great people, who very kind and generously donated in cash, have donated online, or have promised to donate online when they can. I am delighted that you are being part of OUR charity fundraising event and I hope you take pride in being part of this - you should be, THANK YOU! I rode down to the seafront at Robin Hood's Bay this afternoon and after explaining what I was doing to folks enjoying afternoon refreshments, I was absolutely delighted by your generous donations and round of applause - it was very inspirational, THANK YOU! I did succeed in pedalling up the steep hill non-stop and it wasn't as difficult as I expected. I hope to be back on the Cinder Track next Thursday and maybe I shall see some of you again - I hope so. Make yourselves known to me and I will stop and have a chat. OUR fundraising is now less than £300 away from breaking through £7,000 so I am looking forward to achieving that target and continuing the ride to get even more, just like Captain Tom did, I shall keep going until the last day I can ride (Sunday 8th August) before the fund closes on 10th August. May you all take care and stay safe and enjoy yourselves! Best Wishes, Rob

Message 18.07.21:

Another hot day on the ride around Sutton Bank to Osmotherley today, but the heat was tempered by a nice N. Westerly breeze along the trails and the Cleveland Way. 48 miles ridden today and once again, I stopped and chatted to some wonderful people en-route. Sorry, I could not fix the broken rear derailleur on the lady's bike just below High Paradise Farm, but I hope your bike shop can repair it. Thanks to everyone for your kind and generous donations in cash and online. I am very grateful to you and very happy that you have become part of this charity fundraising event. I hope you are all proud of supporting OUR event. We are doing it our way to make a difference and help children who, through no fault of their own, find themselves in an abnormally difficult place. Well Done EVERYONE! I am very proud to be the conduit to your gracious fundraising efforts. Take Care, Stay Safe and Best Wishes! Rob

Message 17.07.21:

A very hot day riding from Sutton Bank along the trails and Cleveland Way. Only 31 miles recorded today, but met some great people, especially Jimmy & Peter, who both rode with me in support at different times of the day - thanks guys! Received some generous and kind cash donations, numerous pledges of online donations and a free cuppa and cake at High Paradise Cafe - thanks Ginny & staff - the value of your donation has been added to OUR fundraising. I didn't think there was so many people on the tracks and bridleways today. Maybe folks went to the coast to cool off? That doesn't matter. What matters is that we all contributed to helping the children who have suffered mental health issues during Covid lockdown, so please be proud of what you have done and, take ownership of OUR charity! I will be riding again in the Sutton Bank area tomorrow and hope to meet more visitors then. Take Care, Stay Safe and enjoy the great weather! Kind regards, Rob

Message 16.02.21:

The cinders were hot today and I am very grateful that a lot of riders and walkers on the track between Scarborough and Whitby have kindly and generously donated to help children with mental health issues, resulting from Covid lockdown. This is OUR charity, so please take ownership of the great work you have done today! Laura & David, thank you so much for your very kind and generous online donation and Laura, well done in your line of work - you know what I mean! I also wish to thank the folks at the cafe in Ravenscar square, the ladies at the Revenscar National Trust shop and the people at the Boggle Hole Hostel & cafe, for kindly putting up flyers on their premises to promote OUR fundraising event. It is important that as many people as possible are aware of OUR fundraising event I cannot be everywhere on the Cinder Track at the same time, so your support is very important for our success. I hope to meet as many of you as possible again soon - please don't hesitate to flag me down and make yourself known to me! it would be great to chat to you again! Feel free to keep coming back to this web portal and checking on our progress. Thank you all for your support! Kind regards, Rob

Message 14.07.21:

Thanks to everyone who stopped me to enquire about OUR fundraising, while I was riding on the Scarborough to Whitby Cinder Track this afternoon. With my friend, Bryn as my co-rider, we covered 27 miles and met some wonderful people along the way, who stopped us to enquire about the fundraising for the Captain Tom Foundation who will be supporting charities that help the children who have been mentally affected due to cover lockdown. Thanks to the boys and girls in pink skirts, who were also on the Cinder Track, raising money for a Cancer charity. It was a great day and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. Take Care, Stay Safe & maybe our paths will cross again, soon! Best Wishes, Rob

Message 11.07.21:

Once again, I have met some some wonderfully kind and generous people in the Sutton Bank to Osmotherly bike tracks and trails. It is a great pleasure to ride for OUR Captain Tom Foundation charity, because you respond so positively. Thank you all so much for your continued support, by donating cash, donating online (thank you for your kind message and additional donation Rob Howard) and, for just being there to support my bike riding, with your encouragement! You are all doing a great job and I feel like we can surpass the current £7,000 target in the next 3 weekends of riding and donating. Take Care, Stay Safe and I hope you are proud of supporting the children who need it so much at this difficult time. Best Wishes, Rob

PS, I peddled 38 miles today, so the total for the Captain Tom challenge ride now stands at 1,004 miles. I never expected that!

MESSAGE 10.07.21: On my first ride around Sutton Bank / Boltby, I clocked up 42 miles, during which I met a lot of wonderful people who were riding and walking in the North York Moors National Park. I was able to raise awareness about the mental health issues that children are experiencing as a result of Covid lockdown. Many people kindly and generously donated in cash and some have donated on line, or have pledged to donate on line in future, to OUR fundraising campaign. I look forward to returning to the Sutton Bank trails tomorrow and meeting lots more people. A special message to "Tubby" & Louise - It was good to see you unexpectedly on the trails today! Also, a big thank you to Ginny at High Paradise Farm, for allowing me to shelter there while the thunder rolled overhead and torrential rain poured from the sky! I had a great day at the new (to me) charity ride venue and I'm looking forward to riding again tomorrow and, during the following 3 weekends. Best Wishes, Rob

MESSAGE 08.07.21: With the kind permission of Chris Pye and North York Moors National Park, I will be riding each weekend (starting Saturday 10th July and finishing on Sunday 1st August) around the SUTTON BANK trails and tracks.

I hope to see at SUTTON BANK, as many of the people who have already been part of OUR fundraising and, people who I have not yet met, to raise awareness and secure donations for the Captain Tom Foundation, to help children that are suffering with mental health issues as a result of Covid lockdown.

Can we get OUR fund to, or over £7,000 in the next 4 weekends? I hope we can !!!

Thank you for your continued support! Best Wishes, Rob

MESSAGE 04.07.21: I'm looking for a new venue in which to continue riding and fund raising for the Captain Tom Foundation to support the kids with mental health issues, as a result of Covid lockdown. I will post an update when I have secured a suitable venue. Meanwhile, the Dalby Forest riding has been an epic and emotional journey for me. It has become a significant part of my life during the last couple of months. I realise the ride went on for longer than expected, but it was worth it. Having had time to reflect on the Forest England decision to terminate my riding, I have come closer to understanding their need to be / seen to be, charity agnostic and give other charities exposure at their premises. Some of my thoughts posted yesterday remain valid, but I have deleted the challenging part of that message and I have accepted that the ride in Dalby is now over, - but "Stage 2" is about to begin!

I wish to thank Forest England Dalby management and staff, Big Bear Bikes management and staff at Dalby shop and bike hire, the owner and staff at The Little Yorkshire Coffee Shop, Adderstone Field and, of course, all the visitors to Dalby who have cheered me on my way and donated so kindly and generously to the charity that I have been riding for. None of this campaign would be possible without you all - so I hope you are proud of what we have achieved together! Thank You!

Today, I walked 2 laps of my cycle route in the hope that I would be able to inform visitors on the route, that the riding had stopped in Dalby - but the fundraising will continue until 6th August. I have ridden a total of 903 miles and walked 21 miles on the fundraising route. My wish is to keep riding during the next 4 weekends and, with a big push, we can probably get around £7,000 or more donated to the fund and perhaps I can ride around 1,200 miles.

Looking forward to "Stage 2" of OUR charity fundraising bike ride - bring it on! Best Wishes, Rob

MESSAGE 03.07.21: I have to stop riding on Forest England property while fundraising for the Captain Tom Foundation to help children with mental health problems, as a result of Covid lockdown. This has been a very sad day for OUR charity and I am very sorry that the ride had to end so abruptly, without me being able to personally update all donors and well-wishers (YOU!). I was hoping the Dalby ride would continue until the fund closes, but it was not to be.

I am trying to find another venue to continue the fundraising and I will try to let everyone know what I am doing until the fund closes on 6th August.

I put another 57 miles of pedalling in today, to reach a total of 903 miles. These were difficult miles to complete, given the bad news above. The mileage is of least importance. Meeting all the wonderful people in Dalby Forest during the last 7 weekends and receiving your support for OUR charity, has been a very satisfying experience. I am really sorry that it had to end in this way.

Take Care, Stay Safe and Best Wishes to you all! Rob & Forest Rips.

MESSAGE 30.06.21:

Thanks to the East Sussex Family who I met briefly over dinner at Carlisle, on their way to Fort Bill (William) for a well deserved holiday. Your kind and generous donation is sincerely appreciated and the kids who have suffered as a result of Covid lockdown measures are going to benefit. On a personal level, I am overwhelmed by people who are unbeknown to me, and are, without prompting, able to generously donate to OUR charity. I hope you will take ownership of this charity and be proud of what you have done to help children who are less privileged than you and I have been. Best Wishes for your continued journey to Scotland (& throughout life). It has been a pleasure to meet you this evening! Kind regards, Rob

UPDATE 27.06.21:

Only 32 miles ridden today (846 miles in total), but lots of Dalby Forest Visitors chatted to, who have kindly and generously donated £83.70 in cash. Thank You!

Also, grateful thanks to those people who I met today, who have pledged to donate online via. this web page. I acknowledge that some of you have already made you donations and I am very grateful for that. I know that there are other people who will visit this Just Giving page and donate to the charity, or just wish to monitor my progress.
Thank you all for your invaluable support! You are all very kind and you give me the motivation to keep pedalling and secure as many donations as possible, to grow our fund as much as possible, before it closes in early August. If we keep going like we have done this weekend, I can see our fund reaching £7,000 or more by the close and that will be absolutely astonishing!!! I thought the original £2,500 target was a big ask, but Dalby Forest Visitors (YOU!) have been so kind and generous that your donations have surpassed my greatest expectations!

I hope you are all to be proud of being part of OUR charity fundraising!

I hope you all arrive home safely and, of course, you take care and stay safe! Until next time we meet, Best Wishes to you, Rob

UPDATE 26.06.21: 47 miles ridden today and Dalby Forest Visitors kind and generous CASH donations received today equal a grand total of £89.14!

Thanks also, to those people who have donated online using this page QR code link. You have also been very kind and generous too!
Thank you all so much for supporting OUR charity in the knowledge that, following the inspirational lead of Captain Sir Tom Moore, children with mental health issues as a result of Covid Lockdown, will have the support and care they so urgently need. As the conduit to this fundraising campaign, I am delighted to have met so many lovely people again today. You give me the inspiration to carry on. I hope I can do your generosity justice. Take Care & Stay Safe! Best Wishes, Rob

UPDATE 20.06.21: 41 miles ridden today and once again, lots of lovely and generous people met and chatted to who kindly and generously donated in cash and pledged to donate online. Your responses to my invitation to donate to OUR charity fund is overwhelming and I am very grateful to you all. If we keep going like this, I can see our fund getting to £6,500 or even close to £7,000 by the time it closes in the first week of August. Thank you so much and I hope to see you again in Dalby soon. Take Care & Stay Safe! Best Wishes, Rob

UPDATE 19.06.21: Only 29 miles ridden today, but lots of interesting and generous people met and chatted to, and more kind and generous donations received on the journey. Meeting Dalby Forest visitors and collecting your donations is more important than putting 50 or 60 miles of pedalling in, I hope you agree? Once again, I have been overwhelmed by the kindness of people that I have met on this journey and I would like you all to take ownership of this fundraising event and make it your own means of giving a lifeline to those people who are unable to enjoy the environs of Dalby Forest, like we do. Together We Are Doing It Our Way - thanks to Captain Tom's Legacy. Take Care, & Stay Safe, Thank You! Rob

UPDATE 18.06.21: I'll be riding around the usual route in Dalby Forest again tomorrow and Sunday. No matter what the weather has brewing for us, I hope to see you there and also hope to collet more donations for the Captain Tom 100 fund, to help mentally affected kids, as a result of lockdown issues. Bring some spare change, please! Thank you! Rob

UPDATE 13.06.21: 697 miles pedalled now. I spent a lot of time this weekend chatting to lots of great people in the Dalby Forest Complex  and I want to thank you all for your very kind and generous donations! The children with mental health issues arising from Covid lockdown restrictions will benefit from your kindness. A special thanks also, to all those people that I have met and who have already donated online and to those who have pledged to do so. This is OUR charity fundraising activity and I hope you all feel proud of being part of it. I'm going to keep riding round Dalby Forest each weekend until the end of July, to get more miles on the clock and to invite everyone I meet to donate as much as they can justify. WE ARE DOING THIS OUR WAY and I hope to see as many of you as possible in Dalby Forest again soon. I hope you all arrived home safely and the A64 traffic queues were not too bad for those who had to travel that way. Take Care, Stay Safe and enjoy yourselves! Sincere Thanks, Rob

UPDATE 07.06.21: 640 miles pedalled now and lots more interesting and generous Dalby Forest visitors met and chatted with! I'm going to keep riding around Dalby each weekend until the fund closes at the end of July. We can keep going with this challenge, like Captain Tom did, and help the children who have been affected with mental health issues caused by Covid lockdown. Thank you so very, very much for your continued and valuable support. We're doing it our way! Sincerely, Rob

UPDATE 01.06.21: I'm still riding round Dalby Forest each weekend. I HOPE WE CAN GET TO £5,000 WITH YOUR HELP! Forest Rips and I have cycled 584 miles since the start of the Captain Tom Challenge. To everyone who has donated to OUR Challenge, a big fat THANK YOU!  We are doing it our way!  Best Wishes, Rob

UPDATE  I rode 212 miles through the Dalby Forest complex on May Day holiday weekend. During this ride, I completed 20 x 10.6 mile laps, climbed 3,260 metres and averaged 10.87mph. It was great to meet so many wonderful and generous people on the route. My original target was to raise £2,500.

ORIGINAL STORY  I'm Riding at least 100 miles, through the Dalby Forest complex, because it's an ideal way for me to raise money for the Captain Tom Foundation. It will be a pleasure to ride around on the May Day holiday weekend, asking visitors if they would like to donate and help me to reach and exceed my target.)

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has donated! May you all take care, stay safe, enjoy yourselves and, remember "We Did It Our Way" to remember Captain Tom Moore!
