Story

We did it!!   It was so hot on Saturday, but we all managed to complete the course in times bettering our expectations! Mind you, it wasn't easy and the transition from the ride to the run was excrutiating - and the first few hundred yards were done on jelly-like legs! But knowing that we have had so many generous donations, we didn't want to let anyone down. Look out for us next year!!

It all started on New Year's Eve really! Gentle conversation around the dinner table of New Year's resolutions and getting fit, suddenly (and inexplicably!) evolved into the idea of entering the Harwich Mini Triathlon! With perhaps just one too many glasses of red wine inside us it seemed a super idea, but four of us (Teresa's sister Beverley and her husband Murray are also in on this) have pushed on with this rediculous challenge!

Those of you who may not know of this world class athletics event; it involves a 300 metre swim in Dovercourt swimming pool followed by a 25 kilometre cycle ride around the lanes of the Tendring peninsular and finishes with a 5 kilometer run around Dovercourt! Each transition and the Finish is at Dovercourt Leisure Centre, starting about 4 pm and we hope to finish around 6pm so if you are free, come along to cheer us as we crawl over the finish line!  It has been a long time since Teresa has done any sort of athletics and Robin has never done anything like this before so it represents a huge challenge for both of us. I would like to say that training has been easy and fun - but it hasn't ! But the knowledge that we are going to raise money for such a good cause has given us the inspiration to keep trying!

Every year an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. Of all people who suffer from a stroke, about a third are likely to die within the first 10 days, about a third are likely to make a recovery within one month and about a third are likely to be left disabled and needing rehabilitation.

Stroke has a greater disability impact than any other medical condition. A quarter of a million people are living with long-term disability as a result of stroke in the UK.

The Stroke Association funds research into prevention, treatment and better methods of rehabilitation, and helps stroke patients and their families directly through its Life After Stroke Services. These include Information, Advice and Support, Communication Support and Life After Stroke grants.
