Story
I just turned 50 in November, and this year I want to take on a challenge to trek and bike a total of 150km across the Knuckles Mountain Range to raise funds for women in Sri Lanka impacted by climate change. I am really stepping out of my comfort zone here (I have never been a big hiker or camper!) but this cause is so important to me, having worked for an environmental NGO where I witnessed how climate change disproportionately impacts women and girls.
I’m asking for your kind support to help me reach my goal as I train over the next two months and take on this challenge with the largest all-women team ever to attempt this route, which includes summiting Gombaniya (1,906m), the highest peak of the Knuckles range!
My goal is to raise US$ 5000 to support UN Women. I’m covering my own travel costs so anything you give here goes to the cause! Here is a little bit more about them:
UN Women programs in over 100 countries worldwide are working to accelerate gender equality through five focus areas - ending violence against women and girls; ending poverty through enhancing women’s economic empowerment; responding in humanitarian crises; increasing women’s leadership and political participation; and ensuring women’s inclusion in peace making processes and negotiations. In everything they do, and all they aim to achieve, UN Women are committed to advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women.
Thanks for your support and wish me luck on this incredible trek!
