Story

I’m fundraising for my much-loved, but sadly currently neglected athletics club Thames Valley Harriers, and I’d really appreciate your support.

Thames Valley Harriers (TVH) is a Community Amateur Sports Club, based at the Linford Christie Stadium in West London, providing athletics coaching and competitions to athletes of all ages, shapes and sizes, from local children to international superstars.

However this year, we have no track to train on, no competition for our athletes (the first time I believe in our 130 year history!), and we have had to cancel or postpone fund raising events this year because of the Covid crisis and lockdown.

We rely heavily on donations and fund raising, without which we aren’t able to support our athletes with coaching, kit, and essential financial support, many of whom are still training hard (under lockdown conditions) without any other source of income, trying to maintain hard-earned levels of fitness for high-level competition when hopefully this returns.

As the current Chairman of the Club and as a member of TVH for the last 30 years, I, along with the Committee are asking TVH athletes, members and supporters to take part in the TVH 2.6 Challenge. All money raised through the TVH 2.6 Challenge (donations and gift aid) will be split equally between TVH and the Care Workers' Charity (CWC) Covid 19 emergency fund which provides money and support to care workers who are self-isolating. CWC is a charity which is very dear to members of TVH.

The 2.6 Challenge has been set up to help charities raise funds during the Covid 19 crisis and takes the marathon distance (26 miles) as the number to base challenges on; performing a challenge 26 times or variations on a theme of 26, see https://twopointsixchallenge.justgiving.com/justgiving.com/campaign/tvh-26-challenge

I am challenging myself to run the marathon distance (26.2 miles) each week for the next month (or 26.2 days to be precise!)...

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to Thames Valley Harriers, so it's the most efficient way to give - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you for supporting TVH and CWC.

Much love x
