Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I ran the Edinburgh Marathon in May 2013 which was by far my hardest challenge to date as my training was extremely limited after being knocked off my motorbike in December 2012.

I  was only able to train on the cross trainer in the gym for the 6 months leading up to the race in May as running on the roads caused severe pain in my back but this did not deter from putting some really hard sessions in and in fact most Sundays to simulate running a marathon I would do 2 or even 3 hours on the cross trainer, I even did 4 hours on one occasion non stop!.

Two weeks before the marathon I attempted to run again on the roads but it did not look very promising at all because of my back pain but nevertheless I travelled up to Scotland still determined to complete the 26.2 miles.

The cross training paid off and I finished the race in 2 hours 57 minutes and 24 seconds, 77th overall and 2nd in my age group.

It was not without sacrifice however, I could hardly walk after completing the course and since then I have not been able to run on the roads because of injury.

I have however continued to use the cross trainer and stationary cycle in the gym and I am even more determined to complete the Edinburgh Marathon in 2014, this time hopefully injury free.

In January 2014 I am seeing some specialists in the hope of getting back on the roads and not only do I want to I want to complete the Marathon on 25th May 2014 I want to break 2 hours 50 minutes which I think will be worth a little extra sponsorship from all you very kind people for this very worthwhile cause.

Thank you

Robert
