Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page.
We are Jack, Rob, James and Phil and we are raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society by running in the Barcelona Marathon.
Just like many people in the UK, we had all heard of the Alzheimer’s
Society but never really understood what the charity do. It was only when our company, Lantei Compliance Services chose the dementia charity as their charity of the year that we really understood the good work the charity does and who it helps.
We decided to run the Barcelona Marathon after understanding
more about the experiences that people with dementia go through.
What is dementia?
The word ‘dementia’ describes a set of symptoms that may
include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or
language. These changes are often small to start with, but for someone with dementia they have become severe enough to affect daily life. A person with dementia may also experience changes in their mood or behavior.
Dementia is caused when the brain is damaged by diseases,
such as Alzheimer’s disease or a series of strokes. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, but not the only one. The specific symptoms that someone with dementia experiences will depend on the parts of the brain that are damaged and the disease that is causing the dementia.
Your donations will help the Alzheimer’s
Society with their work to find new treatments and, ultimately, a cure for dementia. We provide expert information, training, and support services to all those who need our help. And we are creating a more dementia-friendly society so people with the condition can live without fear and prejudice.
Your donations will go a long way to helping dementia sufferer’s across the UK.
