Story
Rupi was referred to MWNUK for assistance because she was struggling financially. Having suffered domestic violence at the hands of her partner, she eventually fled for safety but that was not the end of her plight. She was pregnant and unmarried and was at risk of honour based violence if her family ever found her. She had no home of her own and was placed in a refuge. She had limited funds and was just about making ends meet, and she had no way of paying for essentials for her unborn child. She was suffering from depression.Following information and advice provided by MWNUK's #MWNHelpline, she was provided with provided £250 worth of vouchers from MWNUK's Hardship Fund to pay for the essentials (nappies, clothes etc.) that were needed for her soon-to-be born child.
Is it right that in 2019 we have women who have to choose between being homeless or being beaten and abused? Is it fair that there are individuals and families struggling to make ends meet, unable to pay rent or utilities, ultimately affecting their health and wellbeing? I don't think so.
That is why I am walking for social justice. I am walking to raise funds to help individuals like Rupi in hardship. I am walking to raise funds for MWN's hardship fund so that I can help them help others facing destitution. Because I care. Because I want to make a difference. Do you? Please donate if you do.
