Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
AS A SERVING SOLDIER, I want to support my military colleagues and their families. Along with many colleagues across the world, I will be running a half marathon in aid of the Forces in the community charity.
I’m currently serving in the Falkland Islands, but I know I have other serving colleagues from Abingdon to Afghanistan who will also be taking part in this event.
Forces in the Community….is a charity based in the East Midlands, but their fundraising effort is global!
On 29 September 2013 a team of fundraisers will be taking part in the Robin Hood Marathon. On the same day similar events will be taking place across the globe, from Afghanistan to the Falklands!
The team of fundraisers are an eclectic mix - serving and ex-serving military personnel, children, wives and friends of the charity.
All funds raised will go to support the work of Forces in the Community. (Registered charity: 1144814)
The Forces in the community organisations primary focus is helping their clients gain employment after they leave the military and transfer to “civvy street”
Additionally they offer emotional support, housing guidance, health advice and financial information.
They work with The Royal British Legion, SSAFA, RFEA, BLESMA and many other organisations including Job Centre Plus, Remploy and the Probation Service
Employment
Many ex-forces personnel do not present their valuable experience, qualities and skills, either in a CV or during an interview. In fact many have never experienced an interview.
Housing
With a reported 10,000 ex-service personnel homeless in this country, the country they have served, more needs to be done.
Surely providing somewhere to live isn't too much to expect?
How they help
Providing relevant training and raising the awareness of suitable job opportunities will help alleviate the homeless/jobless scenario.
Their on-going work with existing charities and councils helps those in need.

I’d be very grateful for your sponsorship as this is a very worthwhile organisation that very much needs all the support they can get, and is very much close to my heart.
