Story
On May 11th, myself and 4 of my colleagues at Aphex will be tackling 4 of the highest mountains in Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland.
We will begin with Ben Nevis (1,345m) followed by Helvellyn (950m), then Snowdon (1,085m) and we'll finish with Ireland's Carrauntoohil (1,038m). That's the best part of 4.5km of pure ascent!
Oh yeah, I nearly forgot - we're going to do it all in 48hrs.
I hear you saying you're mad - hard to disagree - but we're not doing it for nothing. We're taking on this challenge to help support the good folk at the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity.
The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity is the only charity that provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families. Here's why their work is so crucial:
- Every year there are over 82,000 new cases of work-related illness directly attributed to working within construction
- Over 46% of all occupational cancer cases in the UK are directly attributed to working in construction
- Stress, depression and anxiety accounts for 27% of all work related illness in construction
- 2 construction workers take their lives every single working day in the UK
- Every year there are over 2,000 major accidents that incapacitate workers so that they cannot return to work
- Last year there were 39 fatalities on UK building sites
A couple of days worth of suffering for us is nothing compared to what these people and their families have to go through, so please, dig deep and help send me up those mountains for them!
