Story
On the 9th July I’ll be looking to complete my first ever 100k Ultra Marathon in the Lakeland Trails Ultra.
So not just loads of miles, loads of hills too!
I’ve done 50k once before as an organised event, and a couple of times myself, but I’ve never run further than that so 100k is very much a step into the unknown.
Given that running has become so important for my own mental health I thought it made sense to also run for mental health in terms of raising money for Mind.
They are a fantastic charity, helping people experiencing mental health problems to get the support they need. And campaigning to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding around mental health.
It would be amazing to think that the effort (and discomfort) I’m putting myself through in working towards this challenge could be raiding money too.
I started running properly during lockdown and I’ve really got the running bug – but running definitely doesn’t come easy to me.
Part of the reason I’ve been sharing all my runs on my Instagram stories is to show that I’m committed to this and giving it everything I’ve got. On the many, many days I don’t feel like running, I’m dragging myself out anyway.
Getting through the miles and fitting in the runs is certainly getting more challenging. A few weeks ago I had to run 50k as a training run which was surreal and a taste of what’s to come!
If any of this makes you want to donate to a fantastic charity it would mean the world to me.
And in return I’ll give it everything I’ve got on July 9th!
