Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have decided to take on the gruelling challenge of the London Marathon this year in memory of my mum who sadly passed away in 2013 when I was 17 years old. Indeed since then, the journey with grief has felt a bit like a marathon at times. A test of endurance both physically and mentally against everything that has been thrown my way.

As 2023 will mark a decade since her passing, I wanted to make sure I did something meaningful in remembering her and acknowledging how far I've come. I know that she would wholeheartedly support my decision to run for Save the Children as she was always a keen supporter of organisations working to make the world a more peaceful and positive place. Whilst I wish she was here to cheer me on I know she would be so happy for this to be done in her memory and for such a good cause.

Having been lucky enough to secure a full time job with Save the Children after completing my Masters degree in 2021 I can testify from first hand experience what incredible work they are doing. In the simplest of terms, Save the Children is a charity which helps children get the future they deserve. In the UK and overseas they make sure children are kept safe, healthy and continue to learn even in the most challenging of circumstances.

So far, Save the Children has helped over 45 million children across the world to get the medicine, food, and education they need. From places affected by ongoing conflict such as Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria and Ukraine to countries facing hunger crisis including Somalia and Ethiopia, Save the Children is always on the front line. Moreover some of the UK’s biggest policy breakthroughs for children, like free school meals and nursery schools, have happened because of their work. By 2030, its shared ambition is that no child dies from preventable causes before their fifth birthday, all children learn from a quality basic education, and violence against children is no longer tolerated.

Therefore if you are able to donate to this JustGiving page in my mum’s memory and in support of Save the Children it would be hugely appreciated. No matter the amount, every donation will make a difference.

Thank you so much.
