Story

On the 3 November 2019 I'll be 'running' the New York Marathon to raise money for the Meningitis Research Foundation in memory of my son Mikey.

Mikey was born in March 2003, he was a happy smiley boy and we were having a lot of fun with him and he was thriving. At the end of November he developed a temperature and to be safe we took him into hospital never expecting that we wouldn't be coming out with him. The teams at Warrington General and Alder Hey worked tirelessly to save him but it was an overwhelming infection and he died in our arms the next day. We later found out that he had Pneumococcal Septicaemia a strain of bacterial meningitis.

We feel that we were very lucky to have had Mikey and desperately unlucky to have lost him, but we have had him to miss him and is much loved.

Love you mouse.

Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.
