Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Having an interest in adaptive surfing and learning about the inspiring journey of people who have suffered a spinal injury myself and Katie have signed up to take part in a English Channel Relay Swim in aid of Aspire. https://www.aspire.org.uk/
We are Team Gorilla 🦍.
We attended an Assessment day at the national centre and we met many amazing volunteers and one incredibly inspirational lady, Paula Craig (www.aspire.org.uk/news/paula-craig-mbe-to-swim-english-channel) who supports and has benefitted from this fantastic charity.
Our boat is booked for the week commencing 30th June 2022 where six of us will set out from Dover - five in a boat and one in the water setting off from the beach. We will swim for an hour each in rotation until we reach the other side.
The distance is approximately 21 miles, the tides will vary and the sea temperature will hopefully average around 14 degrees this time of the year. The variables of the weather and tides will either help or hinder making it a challenge to make ground. We will only know nearer the time.
We have been asked to anticipate the possibility of experiencing extreme seasickness both while swimming (who knew) and on the boat, also that we may be swimming in the dark and that it's not unusual at that time of year to encounter jellyfish and other sea creatures 🦑 not to mention the huge boats in one of the world busiest shipping lanes.
Anyone that knows us will know that swimming is our sanity especially the last 2 years. What better way to test our love of it than to take a challenge and contribute to an amazing charity.
We appreciate any support you can afford and rest assured it will all go to an extremely necessary and worthy cause.
Many thanks.
