Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Oliver was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma in July 19. He was fit, healthy and full of life, 4 year old. Just slightly off his food and he gained a swollen tummy. This then lead to 9 rounds of intensive chemo, 26 sessions of radiotherapy and surgery. Which seemed successful. Followed by 12 months of maintenance chemo. He finished this in March 2021.
2 weeks later a lump appeared in his neck and the Rhabdomyosarcoma was back and had spread. Heartbreaking to hear once again, he was fit healthy and full of life. Based on everything our medical team had seen and how aggressive it was despite their best efforts with everything they knew how to fight this disease with, he was incurable. We then started Palliative care in April and he managed a few good months despite chemo side effects. Sadly the disease started to spread again in July and we had no other options. He was given a few weeks but he wasn’t done yet and managed 10 more weeks being at home surrounded by the things he loved. He was finally at peace on 17/9/21.
Looking back overall Oliver was always smiling even though the side effects of his ‘medicine’ were terrible. He was so used to going to the hospital, he loved going to see all his ‘friends’ in clinic and ward. He loved causing chaos down the corridors, running round with his pumps attached. Oliver gave everything he had and the treatments just aren’t good enough for our children. We need funds to improve treatments and better outcomes. No one should have to experience what we have had to go through. Our children really are the best of us and we need to do everything we can to help. So please spare anything you can so we can make a difference.
Losing olly was heartbreaking for us, now it is time to do whatever we can to help others going through what we have.
