Story
Ahoy-hoy!
Thanks so much for visiting my fundraising page. Last July, I took on the Texas Distance Challenge, riding a distance equal to the circumference of Texas, 3,612 miles, by April 30, 2021. Meanwhile, the annual Texas 4000 ride, where about 90 UT students ride from Austin to Anchorage to raise funds and awareness for cancer research, had to be canceled, because, you know, that global pandemic thing. So, I decided to expand my own goal to 4,000 miles, and to try to raise $2,000 for Texas 4000. (I raised $1,000 before Texas 4000 changed their fundraising platform).
It is rare to find anyone that hasn't been impacted in some way by cancer. It's taken family and friends. Hell, I'm sorry, but it's taken pets, so you'll forgive me if I roll-in those losses.
What the Texas 4000 riders do is amazing. Many of them aren't cyclists to begin with. Some have never ridden a bike. They put in months of training, and tons of hours fundraising. The ride is actually 4,500 miles, and they do it in 70 days, visiting cancer research and treatment centers along the way. This year, with the Canadian border still closed, they'll be riding four different routes in the 48 contiguous states. I strongly encourage you to follow them on the socials and what-not.
Thank you for donating. And, please, keep yourself and your loved ones well. Get all the screenings and stuff you should be getting. As dreadfully uncomfortable as they can be, if you catch something early, it's worth it.
