Hi, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2010 I was able to raise over £1,000.00 by completing the Lifestyle Sports-adidas Dublin Marathon for The Liver Fund at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.

This hospital performed a life saving liver resection for my step dad after he was diagnosed with secondary liver cancer in July 2006; which up until around 5 years ago was said to be impossible.

In 2011 I completed my first Olympic Distance Triathlon by completing the London Triathlon and managed to raise another £200 for another great charity, Get Kids Going.

This year I have set the bar much higher and wish to raise funds for an amazing charity, Macmillan Cancer Care, throughout the events.

A life goal of mine has been to compete in an Ironman Triathlon (and one day get into Kailua-Kona, Hawaii). It’s a truly inspirational event and widely renowned as the world's toughest one day endurance event.

So at the start of January 2012 I took the plunge and paid my entry fee for Ironman UK on 22 July 2012. The next 6-7 months will involve a huge amount of commitment and training 6 days a week, with the hours of training ranging anywhere from 10-18 hours per week.

For those who are unaware it’s a 2.4 mile swim / 112 mile bike / 26.2 mile run.

As part of my build up to the event I am also doing multiple cycling events ranging from 70 miles to 100 miles in distance and I have also committed to running in the Edinburgh Marathon on 27 May 2012 for Macmillan. Later in the year I will also be doing the London Triathlon and Great South Run all as part of this same fundraising effort.

These events will be tough, but like Macmillan say Cancer is the toughest fight most of us will ever face.

We have all been affected by Cancer in one way or another, whether it’s a friend, a family member or you may have been diagnosed yourself. The cancer treatment and support provided by Macmillan is invaluable for those that are diagnosed as well as their families.

The good work their team undertake is only made possible by donations as they make up 96% of Macmillan’s income.

So please dig deep and donate what you can now. Any donations really are greatly appreciated.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you very much, Rob
