Story
The RNLI Torbay Lifeboat Fundraising Team (TLF) work throughout the year to raise funds to support the RNLI and the two Torbay lifeboats, which serve all 3 towns within Torbay -Torquay, Paignton and Brixham.
There has been a Lifeboat Station in Torbay since 1866 and we currently have 2 lifeboats, the All Weather Severn (ALB) named Alec and Christina Dykes and the Inshore Lifeboat Class D (ILB) named ‘Leslie and Mary Dawes’, covering a coastal area from Teignmouth to Start Bay. Our Station is one of the busiest in the country and can anticipate approximately 100 launches in any one year. Brixham is a busy fishing port with Paignton and Torquay central to a large coastal tourist area. Overall, there are five large marinas within our operational area together with leisure and yacht clubs, all manner of water sports as well as cliffs (climbing, walking – and falls!)
An ALB Station costs in excess of £215,000 a year to run so TLF's fundraising is vital to support RNLI operations.
