Story

HOW IT ALL STARTED...

Riz: "I think we need some sort of challenge"

Rena: "What, you want to have a baby?!" (big smile)

Riz: "Umm no...I meant something for charity like a marathon or trek..."

Rena: "Oh."

Riz then had quite a bit of convincing to do...

All children have rights based on what they need to survive and thrive, such as clean water, health care, protection and the chance to go to school.  They apply equally to every child, regardless of who they are and where they are from.  Yet everyday, these rights are denied. UNICEF is working hard to improve this. AND WE WANT TO HELP!

OUR CHALLENGE:

We'll be trekking approximately 115km over 7 days through the Namib desert, the oldest desert in the world. We'll be paying the cost of our flights and other expenses (approx £3500), so all of your contributions go to UNICEF.

UNICEF'S WORK IN NAMIBIA:

40% of Namibian children under 5 lack birth certificates, making them vulnerable to abuse, trafficking and early marriage.  Without a birth certificate they have less access to government  services and schooling.  Your money will help Namibian children to have their births registered and therefore opening access to health and education facilities.

Namibia has one of the highest rates of HIV infection in the world and is considered the single most threat to sustainable human development.  Your money will contribute to a programme aimed at Namibian children aged 10-14, teaching them about HIV and AIDS before they become sexually active.

UNICEF also has programmes to increase maternal and child survivial with simple measures such as malaria treatment and insecticide treated bed nets (things we take for granted on holiday!!).  They provide education to promote better hygiene and sanitation (again things we take for granted).  Your money will help improve and save the lives of women and children in Namibia.

Please help us to improve the lives of children in Namibia and donate now :o)

Would you like Rena & Riz to be your "slaves for the day?!" From those of you that sponsor us £50+ we will be selecting 5 names out of a hat for that special priviledge!! When we get back from Namibia we'll come and do all your chores for a day...cleaning your cars, bathroom, house!!... doing your gardening... sorting out all the junk that's been piling up... doing your laundry... making that pile of ironing vanish... cooking you a meal... doing your errands... whatever else you can think of!
