Story
Isla Sykes is a happy and sociable 9-year-old girl who is the daughter of Darren, one of our engineers. She sadly also has a rare disease known as Sanfilippo Syndrome, which is a degenerative condition likened to Alzheimer’s disease but sadly affects children. Isla, along with Darren and his family receive support from Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, which is in Huddersfield near to where the family live. The Hospice provides a bright, friendly, and welcoming space with amazing facilities and ongoing support for many families. Hospices are hugely underfunded by the government and raise much of the needed funds to keep going through fundraising. Darren says ‘knowing that Isla is loved and well looked after in an amazing setting means so much to us as a family. It enables us to recharge and have quality time with Toby (Islas brother) knowing that she is looked after and happy to be there. Our family are grateful for the ongoing support that they provide and know they are there every step of the way, in whatever way we need them’.
