Story
Amref Health Africa is Africa's leading health charity, working through women and girls to secure the right to health for some of the continent's most remote and marginalised communities.
Sub-Saharan Africa contends with a quarter of the global disease burden. It’s home to 11% of the global population - but only 3% of the world’s health workers. Worldwide, a shortfall of almost 18 million health workers is projected by 2030. Investing in female health workers is vital if this trend is to be reversed.
Imagine not being able to make the bleeding stop. To know that the life of a mother and her baby rests solely in your hands - but you’re powerless to help. In sub-Saharan Africa, health workers find themselves in this impossible position every single day: when they’re equipped with only basic training and equipment, lives are needlessly lost.
We know that women have the power to transform the health of some of the most remote and marginalised communities in Africa. Check out the photos to see some of these smart and capable women yourself. They’re on the front line of change, and when they’re equipped with the right tools and training, thousands of people live happier, richer lives: the whole community thrives.
Amref is determined to help these powerful women succeed, but they can't do it without us. Please donate today, we would be so grateful for your support x
