Story
I am joining a fundraising team for the children's wards of Kings College Hospital and in honour of Evie Dove. Evie is the daughter of Howard (a Holiday Extras colleague and very good friend of mine) and Katie, in April 2020 they received the devastating news that 12 year old daughter had been diagnosed with a brain tumour, every parent’s worst nightmare. Devastatingly Evie passed away in March 2022, after a year long battle, during which time she continually inspired us with her humour, bravery, positivity and gratitude for the support and love she had around her.
I will be joining the Essex Ride 100, where I'll be riding 100 miles around London - the biggest ride I will have ever attempted. I haven't attempted anything like this since breaking my collarbone a couple of years ago, so it's going to be a huge challenge for me to complete!
The money will be spent on various projects to support children and their families needing help from Kings, the first of which being the complete revamp of the parents facilities in the hospital wards - meaning that tired, stressed, upset parents can have better facilities at their disposal when supporting their loved ones - a new and improved kitchen and rest areas, better information and support at the times it is most needed.
To date the team have raised over £30,000 through multiple activities such as a relay swim from Jersey to France, a full Ironman, virtual London Marathon runs and a team of 11 from Holiday Extras walked a combined 187 miles on the Great Hospital Hike.
A big thank you to everyone that is getting involved whether you are doing, or helping organise one of the events, or donating, you are all playing your part, and every single £ really does mean so much to all of us.
