The National Scleroderma Foundation's mission is to improve the lives of people with scleroderma, promote disease awareness, and advance medical research. The foundation's vision is to be a relentless force in finding a cure and improving the lives of people affected by scleroderma.

Story

On June 8, I will turn 49, a milestone my father, Norm, never achieved, dying from Scleroderma, a rare autoimmune disease, at the age of 48. On this day, to both celebrate my birthday, and honor my Dad, I will do something I have never done, but always wanted to: ride 100 miles on a bicycle in a single day, known in cycling as a century. I will wake up on my birthday in Key Largo, and will ride from Mile Marker 100 down the Overseas Highway to Mile Marker 0 in Key West.

I am doing this as a charity fundraiser to benefit the Scleroderma Foundation, and any support you can offer will be greatly appreciated. This is a fantastic non-profit organization that raises funds and awareness for support for scleroderma patients, education about scleroderma, and research into both treatments and a potential cure for the disease. (You can read more about the Foundation and the disease at Scleroderma.org.)
