Story
Update, 24 hours post High 5.
Well, we bloody well did it! We are battered but not broken, after close to 20 hours in the saddle cycling 265 miles across the toughest terrain Scotland had to offer. The High 5 takes in the highest road climbs, over 19000 feet. This physical challenge pushed us to the edge of our capabilities. The road was long, and many of the hours were dark, but it was the climbing which stretched us. But wow, we were sustained and fuelled by our dedication to this cause and the incredible support we have received. The High 5 is complete but my battle against MND continues, fortified by the steadfast support of so many who believe, like me, that this disease isn’t incurable, but underfunded.
Davy, August 2022
This August we are planning to tackle our biggest challenge yet. The Scotland High 5 can be described as the hardest cycle ride in the United Kingdom, tackling 5 of Scotland’s highest roads in one continuous ride, over the course of 260 miles. Yes it’s as mad as it sounds!
The Team: Davy, Tommy Zyw, brother Sorley Richardson, friends Craig Paul, Dan Elswood, Malcolm Holwill, George Besant, Chris Asquith, Murray Buchan and Ryan Brennan.
We are attempting this challenge to raise vital funds and awareness for this important cause. Davy’s fight against Motor Neuron Disease, a cruel and incurable disease he has been living with since 2018. It has been a busy two years since our North Coast 500 cycle. Davy has welcomed baby Alek into the world and other members of the team have also become fathers. Davy’s health continues to deteriorate. This challenge is almost unthinkable for a completely fit person, and will be even more demanding for Davy as his body continues to fight against MND. Davy’s mentality is to seize the day, live for the moment and fight with every fibre of his being against this bastard disease.
We don’t need your sympathy, we need your money! Every pedal pushed, every penny raised will help Davy and the MND community to fight their battles. Please share, support and donate. Light the beacons of hope and burn them bright, for their is no other choice. We ride for MND. Let’s roll.
