Our Target: To raise £15,000 in aid of Saigon Children’s Charity www.saigonchildren.com
From the Charity: "We were amazed when Sam, Callum, Jamie and George said they were going to do this for us - it is a huge undertaking and we wish them every success. It will be a memorable experience in two ways – firstly because I am sure they will share many adventures on the tough month-long trip but also because their efforts aims to put 15 young people through their full four-year university courses. This will be the first time ever that anyone in these families has been to university and represents an important step forward in lifting these young people and their families out of poverty forever. Huge thanks to the four of them and to all of their supporters! " Paul Finnis, Director, Saigon Children's Charity
Our Challenge: On 5 June 2012, Ride4Education (Sam Wilson, Callum Ewing, Jamie Richards & George Blurton) will be flying to Vietnam to cycle fromHanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.
After completing the ride in approximately 5 weeks, we will be spending a further 10 days volunteering our services to the SCC, along with visiting the students we are sponsoring.
What’s going to make this ride so tough?
- Distance: 2400km
- Climate: 35’C heat, 80% humidity
- Route: Tracks & roads, includes cycling over the Annamite Mountains
- Navigation method: Maps

The Cause: Saigon Children’s Charity aim to ‘Eliminate Poverty Through Education’. By raising £10,000, we will have enough money to sponsor 15 students through their 4 years at university in Vietnam.
Your donation will enable these young adults to attend university. They have already shown promise and we believe they deserve this opportunity in order to truly break out of the poverty cycle. The charity removes a significant barrier to this progression by providing for the needs of them and their families whilst these young people are in education.
Ride4Education are paying for all personal expenses, so EVERY PENNY YOU DONATE GOES TO CHARITY
A word from the riders:
“ Whilst teaching in Guyana last year, I saw first hand how education can impact children’s lives. Eliminating Vietnam’s poverty is a tall order, which has to start by helping its children, for they are the country’s future. I am delighted to be supporting a cause I feel so strongly about” - Sam Wilson
"I’ve had the privilege of being able to go to university, and want to help those who are deprived of such an opportunity. The ride is going to take a lot out of me, but when I consider that 5 students’ lives will be significantly improved as a result, I know that all the pain will be worthwhile.” - Callum Ewing
“Getting a last-minute opportunity to support great friends and take part in such an amazing challenge is incredible- despite having less than one month to train! I loved my travels around Vietnam last year and saw so much poverty, that I feel privileged to be able to personally contribute to such a worthwhile cause.” - George Blurton
" The chance to visit this amazing country again, whilst giving something back could not be missed. I’m particularly looking forward to volunteering my services to the charity after we’ve completed the cycle.”- Jamie Richards
