Story
I've been watching David Attenborough's latest TV series called Extinction which raises awareness of the million species at risk of extinction.
I've always liked African animals, and in particular The Big Five, and so I've decided to set myself a challenge and raise some money to help rhino. Rhino are under extreme threat worldwide. Every 8 hours a rhino is slaughtered. This is entirely due to illegal poaching to source rhino horn - used in traditional Chinese medicine (without any benefit), and for making handles of curved daggers in Yemen.
I'm also passionate about cricket and so I decided to support Kevin Pietersen's initiative called SORAI (save our rhino in Africa India) which backs the charity Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary (UK).
I'm going to cycle 20 miles on Sunday 25th October along the Pilgrims Way, starting near Maidstone and finishing at my school in Ashford. My brother Toby and Dad will join me.
Please help me get to my fundraising target which will buy food and shelter for rhino, and equipment for anti-poaching security guards. Thank you :-)
About Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary (UK)
Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary (UK) was established as a charity in 2020 to help raise funds towards the conservation of endangered species, in particular rhinoceroses. We do that by making grants towards the rescue and ongoing care of any orphaned animals, but we also recognise and support the importance of community development to help provide education, health services and jobs and thereby reduce the temptation to succumb to poaching in the first place.
