Paul Hayhurst, his children Beth and Dom, and Dom’s fiancé, Elin, will be taking on RideLondon 100 mile cycling challenge in August 2019 for Macmillan. Why? For Dave Holden.
For those of you who don’t know, Dave was Beth and Dom’s uncle - Paul’s brother in law - who sadly passed away in August 2018.
Dave was initially diagnosed with bowel cancer on the 5th June, and on the 19th of June he was told he had stage 4 cancer. On the 19th July he was rushed into hospital for emergency surgery for a perforated bowel and he sadly left us on the 1st of August.
So why the cycling challenge? Well, Dave was a “mad keen” cyclist in Paul’s words. He took part in RideLondon 3 times - the most recent time being 2017 when he raced as part of Team Macmillan, a charity that would later take care of him - so we wanted to give back to a great cause, and remember Dave in a way that would make him equal parts proud and beside himself with laughter. Although Paul cycles regularly, Beth, Dom and Elin are not so good on two wheels - this should be fun!
Whether or not you knew Dave, we’d really appreciate anything you can give. If you can’t give anything at this time, please share the link to help spread the message.
In return we promise pictures of us in padded shorts, fetching helmets and super cool cycling glasses, and most likely wobbling along on two (very thin) tyres. Guaranteed to bring a smile to your face!
