Welcome to the Nottingham Climbs Everest Base Camp 2022 campaign! These incredible students are taking on the challenge of a lifetime all whilst helping in the fight against meningitis and septicaemia.

Story

In August 2021 I will be climbing to Everest Base Camp to raise money for an amazing charity, the Meningitis Research Foundation. I will be trekking for 11 days, reaching a height of 5545m (so it's a good thing I'm not afraid of heights!). I can't wait to challenge myself to this once in a lifetime opportunity which will definitely be an unforgettable experience, and one which I will learn a lot from. During the next 10 months I will be fundraising as much as possible for the charity and posting updates on this page along the way.

Shockingly, meningitis and neonatal sepsis are the second biggest infectious killer of children under the age of five on the planet, affecting more than 5 million people every year. They can kill you within 12 hours and are responsible for more deaths of children under 5 than malaria, measles, tetanus and AIDS combined. The work of the Meningitis Research Foundation is providing better access to vaccines, health systems that can diagnose and treat children, and support to survivors of meningitis. Thanks to your support they've pioneered a global roadmap, bringing together global expertise to defeat meningitis by 2030. Its time to make meningitis a global health priority!

Thank you,

Ridda

Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.
