Joey's Story
Joey Parris was born on the 31st May 2013. He spent the first 6 months of his life in intensive care at Birmingham Children's Hospital before moving to the Complex Care Unit.
Joey's condition remains undiagnosed but it is very similar to Joubert Syndrome, a condition that affects the brain which makes it very difficult for him to breathe for himself. Unfortunately this means that he is likely to need round the clock care for the foreseeable future.
Approaching his first birthday, I wanted to raise money for the hospital to give a little back after the care and support they have offered to Joey over the last 12 months and to all of the other children whose lives are made that little easier thanks to their hard work.
About the Complex Care Unit
The Complex Care Unit at Birmingham Children's Hospital care for children with complex health needs both on the hospital ward and in the community setting. Many of the children require mechanical ventilation to support their breathing and often require a care team to help support them to live at home with their families.
