THE CHALLENGE
I plan to swim across one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world the English Channel. 21 miles (as the crow flies) of continuous swimming, in water of 16 degrees, in a bid to reach France!
I will be cold, in pain and I'll have to visit places in my mind I've never been before - dark places, horrible places! But with strength, determination, a lot of support and a lot of training, I will get there.
REASONS
My Family has experienced a tremendous amount of loss! Both my Parents had passed away before my 24th birthday, both of my older sisters and my amazing nephew Kavan have all died in the last 5 years.
Alcohol has devastated my family and it has been hard watching members of my family slowly kill themselves and the feeling of helplessness is even harder - I was slowly heading in the same direction...
At the end of lockdown I realised I had a choice, to stand up and face into my problems, or carry on covering my feelings of hurt and pain with Whiskey and Stella Artois... I chose to hang my pint pot up and face into my emotions and even go a step further and challenge my mind to all out war in a bid to be better for my family!
PEOPLE ALWAYS SAY - I WOULD DIE FOR MY FAMILY; I SAY - I'LL LIVE FOR MINE!
I'm 8 months sober as I write this today! Emotions are difficult sometimes, but nobody has ever died from an emotion!
Charity
I have chosen to raise money for East Cheshire Hospice because when my Mother died from Cancer in 2009 although she didn't make to the hospice they were there for us and ready to help. The work they do for the families of loved ones with life limiting illness's is a light in this world that needs our help to keep shining!
