A vision for a beautiful bright outdoor space to allow all children, young people and their families to spend time in a non-medical environment.
Objective will be to create an outdoor sensory space that reflects colour, light and air. Our aim is to create a new larger, accessible space that activates the minds of children, or young people, their families as well as others that visit the children's ward.
The garden will create a sense of calm, fun, distraction and communication. To give a child a sense of normality and comfort at what can be a distressing time for them and their parents.
The number of children treated April 2018- March 2019 - Inpatients 5000 and PAU - 10,000 - Many children are well known to us and they may come to PAU or the ward more than once. We see them from babies through to their 18th birthdays.
Most importantly we want to reduce stress, fear and anxiety that is felt in an unfamiliar setting.
