Story
Richard Steer's fundraising page
The last time I ran anywhere significant it was in 2003, a 5K fun run in Cardiff. Twelve years later I will be running 26.2 miles in the London Marathon - all for Anthony Nolan and to remember a very special girl - Hollie Clark.
Hollie was 8 years old when she was diagnosed with a rare Blood Cancer. Hollie and her family would not give up and with the help of Anthony Nolan Trust - Hollie launched a worldwide #pantsonyourhead campaign (just Google it!). A successful donor was found, however in early November 2015. sadly she passed away - just 8 years old.
My eldest son and Hollie were in the same school - same age. My youngest son is in the same school as Hollie's brother (Sam) - same age.
I am older than the age to register as a donor for Anthony Nolan. For medical reasons I cannot give blood but I had a choice on how to help Anthony Nolan Trust and to remember Hollie. The day after Hollie's news was announced I told myself if I could get a place in the London Marathon, I would run for everything that Hollie stood for. I now have that place!
I made a choice - something which Hollie and her family never had that option, something that all those families that rely upon Anthony Nolan have. They have no choice.
I urge you to consider (even something small) sponsoring me to run the London Marathon. Every penny counts. Make that choice to help Hollie's family and other families in similar situations. Help those who cannot help themselves.
Thank you for partnering with me, Anthony Nolan Trust & Hollie's family.
