Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've been going to gigs for as long as I can remember. I've been to the Brixton Academy, the Eventim Apollo and Wembley Arena. And, of course I've been to concerts at The O2. But it's the shows in London's amazing grassroots venues that have had the biggest impact on me. I've seen bands in those places that changed my world. And I've had nights out in them I'll remember forever.
Right now, like many businesses, and like many of us on a personal level, these places are suffering. They're facing energy bills that will force vast swathes into closure in a matter of months; continued issues around tenants moving into properties and making noise complaints (despite having moved in knowing full well a venue existed nearby); and the ongoing economic impact of Covid-19.
In recent years, the Music Venue Trust has spoken on behalf of, and fought for, these passionately run, talent-nurturing hives of cultural significance. The trust saved so many venues from permanent closure during the worst days of the pandemic and it's now fighting for them during the challenges that lie ahead.
I want to run to raise awareness for the amazing work done by Music Venue Trust, and to highlight the true cultural value of these venues to London, its people and beyond. Sure, the internet changed the game. But the UK music scene still needs these places, so I want to do what I love (run) and raise some money to help out in some way.
Thanks in advance for getting behind me.
