Fundraising for One To One Children's Fund
Hi All Well we did it !! Tom and I both managed to get to Uhuru Peak the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro Phew…. What a fantastic experience not without its trials and tribulations along the way most notably altitude sickness. The thought of all the money we had collected kept us going during the tough times. We met a great bunch of people who all managed to achieve the summit. This is really just a thank you to each and everyone of you for your donations it’s very much appreciated. Regards Richard & Tom
· There are 15 million AIDS orphans living around the world, 13 million of whom are in Africa
· More than 2 million children in Africa are HIV positive · 1400 children die from AIDs every day We recently have become aware of such disturbing facts and figures surrounding children and the Aids and HIV Virus in Africa. We were astonished by the numbers of Children and families affected. Many of these children are now learning to cope with the help of charities such as the “One to One Children’s Fund”. These children and their plight has motivated us to really want to help and make a difference and actively do something to raise awareness and funds so that these Children can have a better life. We have decided to embark upon a mentally and physically testing sponsored climb up Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and the world's tallest freestanding mountain standing at 5,895m. The “One to One Children’s Fund” works with clinics in over 20 African countries to help them find better ways of treating and raising awareness of HIV. The money we raise will be specifically funding “Kibong'oto Hospital”, which is based at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. The hospital treats over 100 HIV positive children and 800 HIV positive adults every year. From this climb we are aiming to raise a minimum sponsorship of £8000 to give to the One to One Children’s Fund. At the moment the hospital has limited facilities to entertain the children when they are waiting for treatment. We hope that some of the money we raise will fund a playground for the children. The money we raise will also be used to improve the care provided to all HIV and AIDS patients by training some of the HIV positive adult patients to support healthcare staff in the clinic so becoming “expert patients”. These "expert patients" ease the workload of medical staff allowing them to treat more people. The project also boosts the self-esteem of expert patients, who are able to use their personal experience of being HIV-positive to help others. Your donations will save lives and improve the lives of so many young people and children please do give generously* Charities pay a small fee for our service. Find out how much it is and what we do for it.
